frick Hagseth.

My daughter is in Cub Scouts(She's an AOL) and this is just ridiculous. Scouting is great for kids, boys and girls, and teaches basic life and survival skills and discipline. What exactly is DEI about that?

This is the same guy that was a failed officer in the Guard and is now running the entire defense(War) department. He's incompetent.

why should our government be supporting any of that? waste of tax payer dollars...not that they dont waste way more on other stupid shite

as far as boy scouts vs girl scout....there is a reason they were split like that and should have stayed like that.

Seems like scouts is determined on area and leadership. I was in scouts for 4-5 years 25 years ago and it was an overall disappointing experience. In those years went on 1 overnight camping trip (at a campsite just off the road) and 1 all day hiking trip. A lot of group meetings sitting around doing nothing and doing small dumb projects.

My thoughts are that not every Boy Scout troop is woke and it really depends on where it is located. My son is still in college, but he acheived Eagle Scout, joined the Army National Gaurd (in Georgia). He got deployed to the North Sanai desert for a year right after all the shite started in Isreal. He's back at Kennesaw State now.

Very much so. I’m ASM of a coed troop and it rocks. Me and five others of our leadership are Eagle Scouts. We’re going on a 25 mile hike the first weekend of December. The kids will navigate the whole thing. We’ve done sea base. We’ve done all kinds of shite from climbing and rappelling to weekend canoe trips. My kid is doing his Eagle project the weekend after our hiking trip.

If everyone of the “scouts ain’t what it used to be” people would start a troop they would realize you can run it basically however you want. Single gender, coed, high adventure, it’s all available. Sadly, most folks just want to bitch and not help shape the next generation of leaders by teaching outdoor skills and self-reliance.

Thanks to all of you for correcting my misguided and incorrect assumption. I'm very glad to see that Scouting is still done right in many places! The way it was done in my time during the 70s and 80s seems to have been lost in a lot of the Cub Scout packs and Boy Scout troops I have seen lately but judging by all of your responses this isn't the case everywhere.

Thank you for bringing to my attention that Scouting is alive and well and is being done properly. The last issue of the Field Book I read through certainly didn't seem to provide anywhere near the wealth of information that I recall having in mine, or in the one my father had from 1942.

Good on all of you for being great parents and taking an interest in raising good, morally based children with a real interest in life and being good citizens.

I hope you will all accept my apology for my outburst.

Spoken by someone who obviously doesn't have kids.

There is an immense screening process/background check for parents now including continuing education. Almost to the point of ridiculousness but it's needed and it has worked.

Basically, any camping event, only same gender adults are allowed in a tent.

Scouts have to have a buddy with them at all times.

Bathrooms are now segregated. Kids and adults.

If an adult who wants to be a den leader even has a sniff of impropriety, they aren't allowed in Scouts.

I'm not in trail life. Do you not understand that's why I said I'm objective? I don't need a group of neckbeards flying lgbtq flags and harboring pedophiles, nor scientologists to take my children on adventures. We're an outdoors family.

Notice you can't call me liar, only deflect.

"Scouting America" is damaged goods, and that's an objective fact. They're a shell of their former selves.

People can bitch about girls being in Scouts, but Girl Scouts don't camp, which is what my daughter wanted to do.

Her troop camps a lot, like once a month. She loves it.

I caught a lot of hell for having my two girls in scouts along with my son.
Being an "only parent present" father, I didn't have much choice.
All three of them had a great time.

ETA: To this day, my teens are always asking to grab the tents and go hiking or camping. When they choose time in the outdoors over the movies or the mall, it reminds me that I made the right choice back then.

There's a right and wrong way to do anything. The timing of changing the boy scouts and girl scouts to gender neutral in the midst of the DEI war is no small coincidence. If good comes of it for some folks, that's a good thing, though.

Scouting America has worked very hard to eliminate what was a pedophile haven. It was bad, I am not going to lie about that. These same people are going to try and may already be in Trail Life. These sick people try to get easy access to kids. Scouting America has worked very hard to make sure the screening process for adult leaders and volunteers keeps these freaks out. Trail Life will have to do the same to not risk their kids, because they are absolutely going to try to get access through Trail Life. It's going to be an endless game of whack a mole with these freaks for every organization with children.

It's not a shell of itself, its still teaching the same program. Trail life is even teaching that program, but now with Jesus only.

The thing with Scouting America is it's not just for weirdo hyper conservative Christians, it's for teaching everyone respect and how to grow into a leader. Is there packs and units that fly the lgbtq flag? I would say yes there are like you have in that picture. Are there hardcore conservative Christian packs and units that wouldn't be caught dead flying a rainbow flag too? Absolutely. This isn't an organization built around keeping people out, its built around for love of country, love of freedom, love of the outdoors, and love of your neighbors. It's trying to bring people together, teach them the outdoors, and be good humans. Something you seem to need more of in your life.

How, exactly, did they "invade" boy scouts? It's an all girl troop with women troop leaders?

They have not inhibited the boys in any way.

And yes, I still take my daughter camping as well. She also likes camping with her friends.

As the proud parent of a kid who got his Eagle Scout at 13.5, this makes me sad. It was one of the best things that he could have done as an only child. The boys in his troop are like his brothers.

I am hearing from my military buddies that are leaders in scouting, this could remove scouting from families posted out of the country entirely as they use base facilities for meetings. This would be absolutely horrible if they do this to those kids.

I don’t have kids, so take my opinion for what it is…but am thinking if I did, I definitely wouldn’t be trusting Scout leaders with them. I’ve seen enough “normal and trustworthy” people turn out to be complete human garbage to where I would hesitate to trust other people with my dog, let alone my kids.
