That's all I'm saying. For the most part, 2a people are not concentrated in large cities. They'd have to bomb the entire country.

would defect and other countries would get involved with support for civilians and troops of their own.

I wouldn't count on this. There are a lot of powerful countries who hate us but tolerate us because as of now they don't have a choice.

I think they'd be willing to watch us crumble

Exactly, the idea that a bunch of inbred country bumpkins could stop trained professional and very well equipped soldiers because they hunt and shoot all the time is a fricking pipe dream.

Kinda like the American Revolution huh.

And most have at least seen Lone Survivor where it's documented 4 SEALs went up against "trained" military in a foreign country with the odds stacked against them and still took out a ton of those guys. That was FOUR guys and one even survived.

I understand the whole military doesn't consist of these elite spec ops warriors but to think simply out manning them guarantees a win is not a smart thing.

We’re still fighting goat herders in Afghanistan 17 years later.

I would bet many of the civilian owned AR's are light years ahead of the average lowest bidder Military AR.

I would take that bet, I'm sure the average civilian is pretty much bone stock except for a budget red dot or scope, plus you have a lot of just total low budget non mil-spec AR's out there (M&P 15 etc) Looking at pictures online of AR15s is not a very good sample of the weapons people actually own, the vast majority of people who post pictures of their rifles online are going to tend to be enthusiast's, who would be most likely to have a high dollar rifle that is very customized.

While the Military may take the low bidder, they still have fairly rigorous specifications for the rifles to conform too.

Yeah but at best it's an 35-1 fight, and that's assuming every single person in uniform is fighting. No cooks, maintenance, infrastructure, etc.

Too many variables to determine things like this but look at Vietnam for an example. If the enemy is determined and stubbornly resists he can lose almost every engagement and take terrible losses yet still inflict enough casualties for the larger/more powerful force to abandon the cause.

If our military wanted to we could glass the entire middle east in less than a month. We'd pretty much kill everyone there so that is the moral problem that the military is faced with.

That's because our ROE in these places were absolutely bullshite.

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan could have been handled within a year if our leaders weren't pussies.

The US military, left to its own ways of fighting a war, could demolish the civilian population within a matter of weeks. Now, most of the military have families that are part of the civilian world so I don't think it'd ever come to that.

You'd also probably have 40% (if not even more) of the military refusing to fight an all out war against US civilians.

Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan all tend to lend evidence against your assertion. Afghanistan involves primitive cave dwelling insurgents with limited weapons and no air power and outside powers have yet to beat or control them.

You mean the Afghans who were helpless against Soviet air attacks until the US armed them modern weaponry?

It would look like the ISIS guys, driving around pickups, vs a modern mechanized military. If you think some hillbillies in Appalachia can sustain a guerilla war, then fine, but 98% of the rest of the civilian resistance would crumble at the first air attack.

I said many, not most. And most of them are not trained to shoot as well or handle stress. I still think the sheer # of uncoordinated combatants would pose an issue
