I’ve been a member for about 20 years because my wife’s mom married a fbi agent. I feel kind of bad about being a member so I don’t complain when they jack up our rates (I feel like they know I shouldn’t be here).

what's the alternative?
Pick and choose where you want to live. Insurance is up nationally, but it’s nowhere near proportional. IMO insurance costs are the biggest driver to climate migration.

Puts it in perspective

If we started a 1 day stay home day where nobody went to work pr bought anything they would bend to our will. But people are weak and stupid

Several years back they started letting family relatives of Veterans join. Mine went up quite a bit in 2025.
It was not several years ago. USAA has allowed direct relatives(wives and kids) of veterans for at least the last 30 years.

Same same .
I have been a USAA member for about 20 yrs and, without elaborating too much as to how i weaseled my way in- i too have a little bit of imposter syndrome since i know for a fact that i wouldnt have lasted three days in any branch of the military
Anyway, i feel like the people complaining are just comparing USAA to how it “used to be”.. i havent noticed much drop off in service, though of course rates have gone up like with every other company .

not in Louisiana. I had multiple brokers tell me they weren't writing new policies and to call USAA for homeowners. I did. They were cheaper than Farm Bureau by $2K.
Same result with my policy. I had progressive and switched to USAA and saves $2200.

Because they lowered there standards and let anyone in. The CEO has no connection to the military.
That happened over ten years ago when they went chasing after enlisted which are much higher risk than officers. The insurance was already borderline high, and the enlisted risk pool took the roof off.
OP should be shopping his insurance every year.

Its all completely anecdotal. Someone filed a claim that wasnt covered under the policy, didnt like that answer and as a result claims whatever company is shite top to bottom.
Atleast USAA isnt publicly traded and profits arent the bottom line.

I’ve had USAA for over 30 years as the son of an Army Veteran.

I hate to break this to you, but there is an annual report every year that talks about ... gasp ... horror... profit. Profit is the bottom line, which is why they sponsor the Army/Navy game, run TV advertising, and let enlisted people join even when they are a far higher risk loss than officers and their families.

USAA on Friday said it recorded net income for 2023 of about $1.2 billion, reversing a 2022 loss—the first for the company since 1923—of about $1.3 billion.
The San Antonio, Texas-based reciprocal exchange said revenue was up 17% year-over-year to $42.5 billion and total investment returns jumped to $4.7 billion in 2023 from $2.8 billion in 2022.
“Management actions taken and investments made over the past few years enabled a return to profitability in 2023,” USAA said in its annual report to members. “Since the pandemic, the external environment has presented
significant and uncertain challenges for USAA and our members. Last year saw both new and ongoing headwinds, with historic catastrophes, elevated interest rates, record inflation and a banking industry crisis. USAA overcame these pressures through disciplined execution of efforts that strengthened our financial foundation today and for the years to come.”
In a separate statement, USAA said it paid nearly $24 billion in claims with more than 350,000 catastrophe-related claims last year.
President and CEO Wayne Peacock said in the letter to members that USAA “made the difficult decision” to raise homeowners and auto insurance rates even after reductions in operating expenses.
USAA hiked auto rates 16.9% in 2023, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence. All 10 of the top auto insurers in the U.S. raised rates double digits in 2023, S&P said. With a 14.7% increase in 2023, USAA was also among the leaders in homeowners insurance rate increases last year as of September 2023, said S&P in another report.

I had them for several years, had been a lifelong State Farm customer before. Couple years back they Raised my auto by a massive amount, switched to state farm kept homeowners, tried to double my homeowners last year, switched it as well. My parents have had them quote multiple times, have never been competative. Never had a claim, other than dealing with auto accidents where other drivers/insurers were at fault.

I live on the coast in Florida and my renewal was down.

If you switch, whatever you do, do not go with Allstate. We deal with homeowners insurance everyday and you do not want Allstate when something goes wrong.
USAA has actually not been that great lately, not like they used to be. Shelter and Farm Bureau are two of the best.
For smaller companies National General is not too bad and they are usually very reasonably priced.
Last resort would be State Farm. Not nearly as good as they used to be, one of the worst now, but they are usually cheap.
Again, no Allstate.

My USAA homeowners insurance could go up 31% and it would still be $700 cheaper than All Stare and State Farm quoted me.
