Long weekends scattered throughout the year. If I took off multiple weeks there is no way I would be able to do it without having to work while on vacation to keep things moving along.

If I take off more than a week at a time it’s pure hell catching back up.
I might take two weeks this year for the holidays though.

Spread it out. You'll burn yourself out if you wait to do it all at once

I have 7 weeks of vacation and can roll over 12 days to the next year every year. In other words, in a couple of years I'll have like 10 weeks accrued, so no, I will not take it all at one time.

Stay away too long and they may find out you aren't needed.

One 5-10 day chunk and a few 3-4 day weekends for me. I'm not really looking to spend my vacation time sitting around doing nothing so if I use it I'm traveling.

I typically will take a couple days here and there, and use about 2 weeks in a block for a long trip. In September I'll be using 2 weeks to go to Italy, and aside from that I'll usually take a Monday or Friday off here and there.

Subtle....

I usually take a week to travel with the family and the rest in small chunks during hunting season. I also get to go on several company hunting trips per year that I don't have to use vacation for. So I usually end up with a week or so of unused vacation at the end of the year.

We have unlimited PTO at my company so I just take off when we are going on vacation or back to BR to visit family.

I have 4 weeks vacation and 12 sick days. I rarely use the sick time. A few days here and there if one of the kids are sick and need to stay home from school. But my wife only works part time so that’s only if it is one of her scheduled work days.

I generally take a week in the summer every year. A few days here and there to have a 3/4 day weekend. We don’t get Christmas Eve, NYE, Black Friday, and some other one I’m forgetting about off. So I take about 6-8 days around Christmas when the kids are out of school. Wife used to work for a school system so I got used to that when we didn’t have kids or they were very young and not in school yet and it is a nice break before starting a new year.

One long time employee has 5 weeks and takes it all at the same time. I prefer a bunch of long weekends throughout the year.

I have 5.5 weeks per year. I take about 2 - 1 week vacations per year and about 2 more weeks of a few days here and there. I try to roll over at least a week or more.

This is pretty much what I do now. I get four weeks, but with having every other Friday off, it's easy to just do a three day weekend trip or add a Thursday when needed.

I've been busy this year and have a feeling I will be rolling at least two weeks over. Works out well that due to holidays and off Fridays this year, I only have to take three days off to have the week of Thanksgiving off and two days to have the week of Christmas off.

Clearly doesn't have one of my bosses. His philosophy is that if you can take off more than 2 weeks and he doesn't miss you, he doesn't need you.

Then that boss is an idiot, but most of them are. What it really means is that he has trained his subordinates very well to cover his tasks for over a month. Which means when there is time for a promotion, if the give it to him they could immediately back fill his tasks with his current team, or promote one of them at the same time. I had an old partner in a CPA firm once tell me his philosophy on hiring and training staff was to get a bunch of thoroughbreds and let them run. He was just there to catch any flack if they messed up.

I usually like to take at least a week a quarter, sometimes more. Definitely not a fan of all at once. I need something to look forward to. As soon as I get back from one, I start looking ahead to the next.
