Love the color scheme the Navy came up with.
Credit to the US military for learning from the weaknesses of the Wildcat when they designed the Hellcat.

I hate when decals do that. Was it an old kit or something? As for the Hellcat, if you want to build one in 1:48 scale, I highly recommend this one from Hobby Boss. The fit was really good, details were good, and the instructions easy to follow.

Thanks. I believe thy only used this three tone paint scheme for approximately a year in the middle of the war before going to the all dark blue scheme like the F4U Corsair I posted on day one.

As much as I love the Corsair, the Hellcat was the workhorse for the carriers in the Pacific. They didn't necessarily have the most graceful lines ,but the did a number on the Zeros. And as usual, great job Vader.

Pretty crazy to think we were flying wildcats during midway and deliver the blows we did.

—Like the P47 vs the P51. Mustang gets the love but the Thunderbolt was a beast.

Th P-47 was a freaking behemoth of an airplane. Use the ground crews to get an idea of how big it was compared to its contemporaries…

was contemplating a reread of the black sheep by gamble this week, might have to just do it

One of my fave show as a kid was Baa Baa Black Sheep with Robert Conrad playing Pappy Boyington.

The skits with Conrad and the ace Japanese pilot were pretty cool. Conrad referred to the Jap pilot as 'Rice ball'.

In the show Conrad is receiving the Navy Cross, Pappy Boyington made a cameo appearance awarding Conrad the Navy Cross and Pappy gives a sheepish grin to the cameras.

Their newer kits are legit. Like Tamiya quality good.

Current project: Accurate Miniatures 1/48 TBF Avenger. Note the forward cockpit is a bronze green rather than the normal zinc chromate. P-47s uses that color, too.

It is, but I’m not doing that bird. I’m using Kitsmask masking set to do a bird from the Truk Lagoon Raid

The F4F Wildcats didn't attack the Japanese carriers, rather they flew escort for the torpedo planes. The Wildcats suffered significant losses in the battle, although they did down a few of the Zeros that engaged them.
