They were stealing catalytic converters because they wanted food. No one is hiring, there must be a labor surplus.

Not one scrap yard in the Baton Rouge area would take mine. And these were ones that I took off my vehicle. I called around to all the muffler shops and they just beat around the bush. I don’t really understand I guess they think I’m trying to sell some stolen catalytic converter‘s.

Not sure how to really stop this but I do know scrapyards will not accept anything related to railroad track. They will only accept it from railroads themselves, not individuals dragging it in.
Problem with cat convertors is you have thousands of repair shops dealing with them before they ever get to a scrap yard.
And of course there is a black market for them. Just like airbags were the hot thing for a while. Instead of stealing and chopping the entire car, they just cut the convertor out of the exhaust.
eta-The above posts are interesting. Surprised scrapyards are not taking them. Obviously the thieves have outlets for the parts.
