Would be curious. I haven't been there in about 40 years. I don't know of anybody who goes.
We go a good bit because my grandma gets us a membership card every year.
It’s biggest problem is they are dragging arse to complete the renovations. I think they’re 4 years behind. So half of it is closed until that is completed.
It will be a nice zoo for its size if they ever finish.

The Lakeland drive site is a bad idea.
GREAT location..... HORRIBLE site.
First of all, the site floods, would never get past USDA. Current zoo is 33 acres. Only 25 acres available at the bluff. Means you would have to shrink zoo, couldn't add exhibits, and have other amenities.
A GREAT site would be over behind the Drury Inn and Target where the old car auction place is since they straightened up County Line Road and raised the railroad tracks.
Right by 55 and 220, right by County Line Road and Ridgeland shopping and restaurants, easy access, would be great there.
BUT the idiot Mayor wants to build what he can't build in West Jackson and is going to see it go down the drain then move it.

quote:Or build air conditioned zoos. Cheaper than building the same sized aquarium.
Aquariums are better anyways... indoors where it's air conditioned like God intended.
Shut the zoos down and release the beasts

know it’s a frequent topic on this board, but what is happening in Jackson deserves more attention nationally. There are a lot of lessons to be learned, and many other cities are headed down this same path.
Montgomery is next. Memphis is already there. There’s a lot of mid-sized southern cities on the tipping point of third world status. Complete mismanagement by elected officials too concerned with lining their own pockets to actually do their job.

Or your employees are skimming, which is much more likely.
If you go to their website to buy tickets, there is a code you can put in that allows you to pay cash at entry.
That sounds like an accounting nightmare and probably can be abused.

I visited the Jackson Zoo many times as a child back in the late 1940s and early 1950s. It was a fun outing in those days.

A zoo generally isn’t a profit center… but that revenue number is low.
Looks like admission is $8 per adult and $5 per child. So less than 10k visitors in say 7 months…or less than 50 visitors a day.
Paid visitors****

The best attraction at the Jackson Zoo should be Kenneth Stokes. They missing out.

Think I know but can somebody give an example of each.
Other assets Councilman Banks mentioned the city is considering doing away with are constituent services, internal audit, and PEG.

Despite the zoo being in a declining part of town even back in the 90’s, it was a good zoo that had lots of different types of animals. Train, elephant trunk slide, turtle wheel around thing, petting zoo on top of the animals that were kinda out of their league considering the size of Jackson…aside from that time the cheetah got out and chewed on that kids head, it was a great place.
It’s sad what these communities keep doing to themselves.

I just got a PM for the “interesting behavior” meme in another thread so yea I guess I’ll keep my jokes to myself now. It gets posted so much I didn’t think it was considered over the line

I laugh when people compare Jackson to BR. BREC has more money than the City of Jackson.
