Avoid crowded places? Take additional precautions not to infect others, including elderly family members? Stay home from work? The alternatives to getting tested are either self-quarantining for every little cold or ignoring symptoms and going about your normal life.
I agree with the argument that at-risk portions of the populations need to be the ones taking steps to avoid exposure. At the same time, if I had reason to think I might have COVID, I’d want to know for sure. I don’t think I’d be able to forgive myself if one of my parents died because they wanted to see their granddaughter and I didn’t bother to get tested.

Most tests are required by employers.

What are the circumstances around those tests? Are they required by employers because the employer is saying “everyone gets tested no matter what”? Or are they required because of symptoms or contact with someone with COVID?
(This is a serious question, as I have no idea.)

I have 2 employees in their early 20s who have gotten tested 3 times in the last month each now and have been negative each time and haven't had any symptoms ever. It is getting ridiculous.

Your argument is if you don't get screened, you don't get sick.
Louisiana schools are worse than I thought.

Generally 1 person tests positive and then the company tells all employees to get tested

I have been doing this. The minute I started feeling like crap I limited my contact to people I have already been around (household). Also had grocery delivery and Waitr for everything else. I didn’t need to get tested for that.
The bottom line is that it’s too late anyway. It’s out there and contact tracing is hopeless because we’ve all come in contact with someone who has had contact with it.

I'm not sure I had a sales job and was furloughed. I know some of my friends/family had to take them to return though.

Had a PA tell me the other day that some people are testing positive for months! If that’s the case, and they’re having to be retested, does each positive test count as another case?? I don’t think the numbers can be trusted on either side.

Yes, he tested positive for 5 freakin weeks and each one was counted as a new case.

The lack of transparency with these tests and results is stunning.
Lack of transparency combined with restriction of rights, limiting of activities, etc is MADDENING for anyone with a lick of sense.

I'd guess very few people are being tested without a reason. They've either been exposed or are required to be tested for work.
The test is invasive and uncomfortable, and by going to a testing center you're going to a hotspot - a place you avoid if you can.

Having been "exposed" is not a good reason to get tested.
The problem came with the CDCs stupid guidelines that included "% positive". We were screwed pretty much either way.

IDGAF about new positiomve tests precisely because we're constantly increasing the volume of testing.
Hospitalizations are as pure of a metric as we're going to find. It's not perfect, but it's the best we've got. However, it's still influenced by testing.

Most of these are being required by their employers
Which is ridiculous if true that you can continue to test positive for up to 6 weeks.
This whole “test the staff and shut down for one positive” that is trending in the restaurant industry isn’t sustainable.

Not sure if serious or not, but I know someone that this actually happened to. They were told it was going to be a wait of a few hours to get tested, so they left. A few days later, they got a call saying they tested positive.
