re: What is going on with this LSU lake project

For once I'm actually going to defend this one. The schedule has been out and publicly available for a couple years now, its not their fault that the public didn't pay attention what they made publicly available. As far as the cost, the lakes are massive and anyone complaining about the cost of the actual construction doesn't work in the engineering or construction industry because those costs are in line with dredging projects
Eta: they have also utilized quite a bit of federal funding for this project through grants and the LWI program. That money doesn't move quick and can often get held up for numerous reasons. No money = no work

Do you think the project is going well and looks good?

Is your name Karen by chance?

What active construction site have you seen that "looks good"? I think the project is going as expected and will look good when it is complete. Thats like driving on a road they're redoing and saying "this road is rough, what a failed project"

They completely closed out May Street with no way to run around the big lake without running extra 2/3 miles around Perkins underpass.
So that’s the reason why your mad? Completely selfish reason and a lame one at that. You can run anywhere. Deal with it.

“The bird sanctuary looks”
Like garbage. They pretty much doubled the size by piling mud all around it.. it extends almost to the teke house now.. looking from lakeshore they turned lakeview houses into swampland view houses.. from the teke side the lakeview now looks like a canal .. they are also piling up mud on existing banks to increase rec area.. but basically reducing footprint of lakes.. ran a small dozer on campus lakes and called it done..
what a disaster.. fwiw there was a time the lakes were pretty much dry and only a few ankle deep pods of water. I could not understand why they did not just get a fleet of bobcats and trim it out..
May end up right but my goodness what a cluster so far.

That is a crap ton of money for dredging. I’d be interested to see what the cost per CY comes out to be.

The tariffs are holding it up.

I'll play, is this true? They have actually found bodies?

Every time I drive through Louisiana, I’m amazed at how lazy road workers are.

Piling the dredged material onto the bird sanctuary area was a mistake. The cost to dispose of it was likely higher than thought.
The result is a significant portion of the lake is now gone to make a home for the silt that was dredged.
And it looks like a low bid job.

No idea, but given the number of serial killers Baton Rouge has had over the years I wouldn’t be surprised.

This was a terrible decision along with all the little islands. That area of the lake is so narrow now and it looks bad. Typical they took the cheap route and it’s ruined the lake.

I'll believe that when I see it. It's the way they did it, I think. It has to be a PITA if you live near or around the Lakes. They closed off everything almost all at once making it hard all around. I guess the thought was to get all the painful work needed done faster. But I can't see them finishing by next June or July.

They're working on it every day.
I see them when I'm at work.
It's actually kind of neat to watch.

I was wondering the exact same thing. At the least, why not just have it blinking yellow? That should be easy to do.
