Play by the book but make sure you play with other players that play by the book, which is usually happening at higher limit tables. Otherwise, dumbfricks that don't know how to play might cost you a lot of money if you're betting bigger at low limit tables.

As with many things in my life, hit until I bust

I never understood how “dumbfricks” can change the cards and “cost” other players money...aren’t the odds the same that the “dumbfricks” move also change the cards to win the table money, too? explain it to me like I’m 5

Someone has no clue about playing blackjack.

lots of bad black jack players here ... while few have mentioned it, often whether or not you hit depends on what the dealer is showing.

quote:I don’t understand why 90% of blackjack players don’t understand basic statistics. I’m actually referring to this poster and others who insist that everyone at the table “play by the book”. It’s irrelevant to the guy playing g with me if I play by the book. I stay away from the tables because of this. The hardcore blackjack people are odd.

I agree. Posters like that is why I rarely play blackjack (I will play if I’m solo or with a group of friends and we can fill the table)
It’s gambling and it’s supposed to be fun, and assholes who think it’s some weird team sport ruin it completely

“play by the book”.
I play a lot of blackjack. This is one of my least favorite sayings. There’s situations where you definitely should play by the book, but as with anything in life. It’s fluid.

I like to split 10’s and I always hit if the dealer has 16. Give it a try tonight, big money.

Play by the book mostly. When I win, I add half the winnings to the bet and keep the other half. Keep stacking up if I get on a hot streak. Reset to base bet after a loss.
If I'm ready to color out and up big, I'll bet half of my chips on one final hand (keep the other half available in case I need to double down or split) and swing for the fences.

quote:On a serious note, every table game the house has, has a built in mathematical edge for them. Playing strictly buy the "book" cuts that edge down on BJ to almost 50/50. All players must be playing this way also. I will get up immediately from a table if another player is doing stupid shite like hitting a 12 against the dealers 6.

I don’t always hit on 16.

From a blackjack guru site.
(And this was my philosophy before I even discovered this website. I don’t play blackjack that often because I’d just rather not loose my money or give it away.)
“Never hit your 16.
You say, “but I can’t beat the dealer’s 20 with my 16!”
And you’re right.
But you definitely can’t beat the dealer if you’ve busted out. And you’ll lose nearly 70% of the time when you hit your 16.
Here’s the statistics. If you hit on your 16, you’ll win 25.23% of the time, push 5.46% of the time, and you will lose 69.31% of the time. That’s a net loss of 44.08% when you hit your 16.
If you stand on your 16, you’ll win 29.01% of the time, push 0%, and lose 70.99% of the time. This is a net loss of 41.98% — so by standing on your 16, you’ll be cutting your losses by 2.1%!
In the situation where you are dealt a 16, you have to realize that you’re probably going to lose, and you need to simply deal with that fact.
You need to stand on the 16 to give yourself the greatest chance of not losing.
Be patient, because you’ll make your money at the blackjack table with the better hands that you’re dealt…“
