Of course gout is triggered by beer and red meat, two of the best things on the planet. It couldn't be brussel sprouts and wine coolers
In a just world cheeseburgers, steak, bourbon/beer, drugs and sleeping with many women would improve your health and longevity

I had stubbed my toe and put an ice pack on it. Big mistake!!!
This is what did me in and made my foot go 3x bigger. I soaked my foot in the coldest ice water I could stand, thinking it would help it. Guess I nuked it into orbit. I didn't put that together till I just read your post. So heat is better for it?

Hydration. Alcohol (beer in particular) and red meat are the second biggest factors. Drinking at the beach is a double whammy, beer and likely being a little dehydrated.

I had chronic gout as well... it would go through almost every joint in my foot. No diet changes affected it and I had eaten Tums and antacids for years for acid reflux. Dr put my on Prilosec for the heartburn and haven't had a single gout flare up in damn near 10 years. Weird.

My first gout attack was in my mid 40's.

I've had it for 30 years. Usually 2-3 attacks per year but I could never figure out a direct trigger. Started 300mg of Alopurinol two years ago and have been attack free. It's been Fn glorious

OUCH!
It's a bit like rock candy.
To make rock candy, all that has to be done is super saturate hot water with sugar. Hanging a string in it and letting the water cool, big sugar crystals will form as the water can no longer carry that much dissolved sugar.
There are a lot of little things that can help if you sense a gout attack coming on. Putting a warm (not hot) heating pad on the foot while watching TV works to ward it off. Wearing socks at night while sleeping to keep the foot warmer can help. Drinking lots of water to flush your system helps a lot.
Cherries are a good uric acid reducer.

My Dad had gout when I was still in high school in the late 60's. He was grossly overweight. My Mom put him on a diet from hell. By the time I left for college he had lost about 75 lbs. and was off all medication and never had a problem with it again.
He didn't use alcohol, but he never saw a piece of red meat or fried chicken he didn't like.

I have been on it for a few years. A few small flairs but nothing serious. It's! Amazing

Yeah, basic chemistry. Salt (in this case uric acid) precipitates in a cool environment easier than a warm environment. Once those crystals are formed in your joint synovial fluid, your immune system takes over and the gout attack ensues.
