They need to hire a great marketing company and put out some serious ads to help them against the stigma
The lesbian thing? Maybe down south but in the Midwest and mountain west…Subarus are as ubiquitous as VW’s or Chevrolets. And the lesbians in my neighborhood that everyone talks about drive full sized domestic SUVs.
I’m wondering if what makes Subaru special still exists anymore. Most manufacturers have excellent all wheel drive systems now. Their line of flat four engines aren’t as competitive as they used to be, and they will eventually succumb to the relentless and illogical push towards more and more strict emissions by various governments. That is going to hurt older engine designs.
The sports compact segment that made the WRX so sought after among younger guys seems to be evaporating. Mostly because I think that car’s target audience can’t afford anything now.
I agree that the Forester and Crosstrek are both very competitive now and seem to be popular and well designed. Their larger three row isn’t doing that well though. Forgot the name of it.
IMO they made a mistake making the new Outback so large. The beauty of a boxer engine is that it has a lower center of gravity which helped the car handle a little better. That’s sort of undermined if they stick that power plant into what is becoming a minivan sized crossover.

The pre-2020 engine block was garbage.

For me personally, I've always kind of liked them, but I'm the kind of person that likes to work on my own vehicles.
A few years ago, a friend that had one was having an over heating problem with his and asked me to look at it.
It was a really nice car and I thought I might get an opportunity to buy it.
I've worked on a lot of vehicles, but when I opened the hood on that thing, nothing made sense to me.
I shut the hood and told him that he was going to need to take it to a dealer.
I've never looked at another one.

I have an Outback, which serves me while travelling to off-road locations in the Rockies for backpacking. One of the best features, IMHO, is the oil filter positioned on top of the engine. Makes changing the oil easy with not a drop of oil spilled!

I don't quite see that. They are very good automobiles that excel in mountains and snow/ice locations. In south Louisiana we have no need for that.

Who gives a flip what others think? Subaru is a great car. Also, I loved my jeep. Now I'm kicking it with the biggest baddest Green Bronco Everglades. Can sleep in it for overnight trip to fly fish the White below Bull Shoals and the Norfork. Also can put rigged rods in easily while hopping between rivers or access spots. Also does well going over streams and washouts. I put in below the dam with low water with deeper 2 to 2 1/2 foot pools at ramp and backed the whole rig into the river to get my skiff off. Dang engine intake snorkel on the Bronco did great and pulled out with no water in the vehicle

Subaru has solid cars. Boxer engines with full time awd and many have great power too

I just assume the owner is a douchey leftist. I see many Subarus plastered with preachy bumper stickers plastered on them.
I am old, straight and probably more small government than most here. Subarus are economical and when the south has a snow issue you can get places most can’t. Waiting for the return of the Brat or a small Subaru pickup

About 7 years ago, when we were looking for a car for my wife, we looked at a Lesbaru and we liked it very well. The issue was it seemed like it was woefully lacking in power.
Also had heard stories that if you had to replace a tire on an AWD car, you would need to shave the new one down to match the circumference/diameter of the older mileage tires. But that wasn't just for Subarus.
She really had her heart on a Lexus RX 350. If we were buying today, we would seriously consider one.

Probably a negative, anti marketing tool.
Bought my wife a new Forester, last year. She likes it

Yeah there is a meme about someone going 5mph slipping and sliding around in the snow in their Camry, and then getting blown off the road by an AWD Subaru going 40mph with no issues

It is a car that has been adopted by the Godless. Guilt and damnation by association. I wouldn't have one in my driveway.
