Because he left Janet Jackson out to dry with the nipple ring and he is the one who pulled that part off exposing the nipple ring. He then acts like he didn't know anything about it and acted surprise by it. He was loved by the black community before that but since then he doesn't have the same support.

But this narrative didn’t come up until recently after they decided he was also culturally appropriating (and also it was apparently “sexist” as well since Janet’s career never rebounded by JTs did)
