dirty because way more people don’t give a frick about littering than people that do

A lot of truth here. When we moved to Colorado in the ‘70’s, I immediately noticed a difference in attitude towards littering. All of society there shunned litterers. People would be outraged. If someone was seen with litter thrown out of cars there would be horn blowing... they would get followed and yelled at... people would pull over and pick it up.

People took great pride in how much natural beauty there is in that state. I understand the landscape in LA isn’t that of CO, but addressing the trash/litter problem would greatly improve the image of the state.

We really need exorbitant fines, and a public service campaign out of the Secretary of State/Tourism or something. Kinda like don’t mess with Texas or something to change attitude.

I've found that it pretty much all boils down to having pride in where you live. If you really love your home/city/state, then you're less likely to trash it.

It wouldn’t be as dirty if anyone that is on the “EBT” program were required to perform litter cleanup duties before receiving their “free” money.

Yes, you see litter in every state.....but not to the extreme you see in Louisiana.

I was in the Houston area this past weekend looking for a place to live for work and was surprised how bad some areas were with trash. It's not just Louisiana.

There needs to be zero tolerance of littering by everyone, not just cops, for this trashy behavior to hope to change. It is embedded, deep.

I think it all depends on the day too. All it takes is 1-2 trash cans to be tipped over with a strong wind to make an area look like a warzone.

Our subdivision in NW Houston is really clean, had strong winds the other day and everyone puts their cans out over night. Somebody shredded a ton of stuff and it went everywhere along with tons of other crap. Nextdoor site was going ballistic over the trash.

Wasn't everywhere I saw it Houston but I can buy that. I lived in North Dakota for a year and a half and winds there could get 60+ with winter and summer storms. Would blow trash everywhere but as a whole, they littered a good bit less than LA.

I quite often see drivers just throw trash out of their vehicle onto the street. Like, WTF, you can't wait to throw it away in a garbage can?

Who raised them peoples?

Then again, there is a lot of traffic on I-10, it depends on where you were looking to live. I live in the Bridgeland community in NW Houston, Cypress to be exact. Many of my neighbors, vast majority, make the 35-45 minute commute to downtown or med center area. It seems to be the Houston way.

Congrats on your new job and move to the Houston area.

come back and talk to me when you live there a year.

I'll bet once you're gone for a while and return to this state, you will be awed and pissed at how much litter there is here.

Because Earthday is a staple of the Republican Party platform.
I love how anytime anything negative is brought up about Lousiana the board blames black people. I mean “culcha” as if that expression meant something else.
Seriously though are you all gone blame the littering in Louisiana on black people? I’ve seen lots of white folks litter way too often down there.

This is very true. Damn near Everyone I talk to that’s born & raised in Louisiana is so proud of the culture and loves everything about Louisiana also have no problem littering. I’ve seen it first hand and have gotten into somewhat heated arguments about this exact topic.

People in Louisiana blame every damn issue on black people as if there isn’t just as many trashy white people dragging the state down.

I’m not saying black people aren’t part of the problem. But trashy white people are just as bad and worse in many cases.

In all my years here I still haven't figured out if the difference in litter on public right-of-ways compared to other states is an issue of the trashy people throwing trash out their windows or incompetent politicians not funding roadside cleanup.

I guess either way the answer is still, Louisiana people.

Why? Mardi Gras celebrates the littering of the streets with the expectation that someone else will clean it up. This behavior just carries over outside of Mardi Gras.

amen bro. Every native in this state will defend the "Sportsman's Paradise". But most every one of them will throw shite out of their car. Or boat. Or off there 4 wheeler. Or leave their shite in the woods/duck blind/marina, etc. Its fricking disgusting.
You'd think a place that has as little gong for it as La.(relatively speaking) would at least try to keep clean. But no, not here.
