At least she’s not lazy.

If you're lucky, she just scratched the clear coat and it will compound out, but that's going to take a good bit of effort and not something you'd want to do by hand.
I suggest buying one of those power buffers with the pads and do it that way.
Oh, and keep the wife away from washing vehicles in the future.

Maybe so. I used to add a little into the foamer with stripping wash. It always seem to work a little better, but I’ll take your word on it being a wives tale.

“I spent all day cleaning!”
“Ummm, where?”
“See that 5 square foot section of shelf? It’s super clean and organized now!”

Tell your wife to use dryer sheets next time. Works like a champ.
Do give her credit for effort though.

I would suggest a clay bath next. The clay takes out a lot of scratches

Two & three part paint jobs* are not compromised by washing them with Dawn and a clean soft cotton towel.
*Almost all modern automotive paint is done with either of these two processes. The three part is more expensive high-end mica chips down in the paint, the two part is everything else: base coat, clear coat sealer.

I hate to admit this, but my wife did essentially the same damn thing. She had two small scratches on her van when we bought it. I told her I could get them out with wet fine grit sandpaper. Before I could do it I had to go out of town for work. She took it upon herself to give it a whirl, except she used 100 grit and scratched the ever loving shite out of it. We hadn’t had the van for two weeks.
