Unlike movies, you can’t take a full slap and not react at all. But apparently I guess most people have never been actually hit to realize that
I've been punched in the face and looked at the guy with a "Are you fricking kidding me" look.
Will Smith isn't a Russian professional slap fighter. He ain't gonna knock anyone down with a slap.
I think it's safe to say that standing on the stage at the Oscars is about the last place a dude expects to be assaulted, so Rock's reaction doesn't surprise me. You expect him to just throw down?

Isn't that from the La La Land fiasco a few years ago?

Staged or real, it's trashy as frick either way.
Will Smith didn't throw a punch, he slapped- the way one might slap someone they know won't react, to humiliate them.
Rock's reaction appears real... he's a comedian, onstage doing his act. Tons of comedians are brutal, but you're supposed to sit and take it and laugh, not come up and be physical. And obviously you wouldn't expect someone to react at the Oscars or another big ceremony; I've seen guys light into various actors and they're laughing, but red as hell.
Rock fumbles his lines afterwards, like he's been rattled and thrown off his game, but is trying to laugh it off awkwardly.
I almost get the sense that Smith told him he'd slap the shite out of him if he talked about his wife, and Rock took that as bluster and tried to prove he wouldn't do shite, by talking about her. And was wrong.

He'll be back. If they let Mel back in they'll let a guy who defended his wife's honor back in 350% of the time.

For the people that think this is fake because CR didn’t like across the room: look at Will’s stance. Had he transferred his momentum to his left foot and rotated his hips you might have a point. But he lifts his left foot and is off balance. Even then CR’s torso rotates. The slap was real. Just poor form.

Rock no-sold it like a boss. Makes Smith look like an even bigger bitch.

Cant wait to see the “aftermath” that comes after this. Rock will say some shite and so will the Smiths. Nothing will happen though because it was a stunt.
No arrest
No suing

Only thing this ordeal will amount to is a bunch of people googling “wtf is alopecia” & “who fricked jada pinkett”

Because likely they monitor their viewership and has this as a plan B if they were in the tank by that time
You really wanna go with a "plan b"theory?
You do know the ratings have been tanking for years, correct?
quote:
Trending everywhere. I bet when they release the stats tomorrow the viewership quadruples a few minutes after that story hit the internet.
So Will Smith did this on behalf of the Oscars? He potentially damages his career to help out the
people who run the show? Why in the world would he do that?

It was real
Because he compared his bitch-slap to the role he just won an Oscar for?
Definitely not a ploy to sell more tickets.

quote:Really? That's the stereotypical "oh, you went there, I told you what would happen" act.quote:
I do think there was a possibility that CR told WS he had a joke before the show. I suspect Will said if you do I am going to slap your arse
Then why spend a few seconds laughing at the joke before you commence to slapping?
For what it's worth, Smith has a ton of money and is not as active acting anymore. He might be a bit nuts and not give a frick about the consequences right now.

When Will was closing in and bearing down and raising his hand I didn't see Chris take any defensive measures. Just stood there with his hands behind his back. That goes against our primal coding.
He's in a suit, on stage, presenting the Oscars which is televised worldwide.
And you expect him to be Captain Caveman when Smith approaches him.

You’re right. I forgot suits make you forget how to react naturally to assault.

He likely wasn’t expecting to be assaulted dude. You know, because it’s the biggest award night of the year
