Is that batshit a crazy theory in 2022 after everything we've seen in the last few years with the government and media outright lying to our faces for years?
I've made that point since right after this hit the OT last night. The same people immediately, without question, buying into the actions of a room full of actors are the same people who refuse to believe a word that the media tells them.
It isn't really that I think it was staged or not, I really don't care, I just find it hilarious how quickly people bought in and how unwilling they seem to even entertain the chance that it was staged.

The fact so many people bought right into it and are defending it as real is concerning
Yep, they are validated the fact that this stunt worked.
Go take a quick glimpse of headlines and social media. The "conversation" has started.

they've known each other for well over 30 years and from what i'm reading they aren't exactly "friends".
So a standup comedian made jokes in his sets throughout the years about an A-list rich comedic actor (that gets ragged on from others as well) and that's what you dig up for proof of "decades of hatred"

I couldn't give two shits about the oscars, will smith, whether it was real or fake, yadda yadda yadda,
BUT
To act as if its insane to think that this might have been staged is quite delusional.

Read this and truthfully tell me it's not in the realm of possibility. Throw in Chris Rock being on stage, creating the perfect storm (smaller man, someone he "hates")
Being in the realm of possibility doesn't make it more likely.
Again, the posters arguing this was faked have been moving the goalposts throughout this entire thread, when the simplest explanation is still that Smith simply lost it in the heat of the moment.

Bingo. Some take their fairy tales too seriously here.
Man, you are seriously going to pretend your schtick and character are not extremely well known here? You are literally always the one going hardest on the personal attacks in threads like this. Literally.

As someone earlier noted, it's a possibility but it's the least logical one.

However, Smith doesn’t seem to share in that hatred. The minute “Jada” came out of Rock’s mouth, Smith should’ve toned down the laughter.
He was laughing at the previous jokes that Chris told. It looks like Will didnt immediately process things. He took a look at Jada, who looked disgusted, and then things immediately clicked for Will.

Yeah, if the new theory is that is was all staged but Will Smith was the only one in on it (so...not staged?) then LNCHBOX and crew can officially claim victory and we can close this thread.
One person can technically stage something by defintion
But thats not what anyone means by how they are using it

I mean, saying that he was “acting” while laughing at the jokes of a man he supposedly “hates” but then believing that the assault was “real” is a pretty laughable way to go with this
I love how you find it absurd that Will Smith can fake a laugh, but then think later on in the sentence that both Rock and Smith are great enough actors to pull off an obvious bitch slap and convince the audience both in Hollywood and at home that it is real when it was fake.

Rock, Smith and Pinkett Smith do have some history. Rock appeared on an episode of Smith’s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” in 1995 and was a voice actor alongside Pinkett Smith in three animated “Madagascar” films.
More recently, however, Rock has used Pinkett Smith as a punchline before at the Academy Awards. In 2016, for the second year in a row, all 20 acting nominees were white. Smith — already a two-time nominee for “Ali” and “The Pursuit of Happyness” — was not nominated for his role in the sports drama “Concussion.” Pinkett Smith publicly declared that she was boycotting the Oscars and would not attend.
In a video announcing her decision, she addressed Rock, already announced as that year’s host, saying: “Hey Chris, I won’t be at the Academy Awards, and I won’t be watching. But I can’t think of a better man to do the job at hand this year than you, my friend.”
In his opening monologue Rock addressed the controversy of a second year of #OscarsSoWhite in part by saying, “What happened this year? What happened? People went mad. Spike got mad. Sharpton got mad. Jada went mad. And Will went mad.
“Everybody went mad, you know. It’s quite like, Jada got mad? Jada says she’s not coming. Protesting. I’m like, ‘Isn’t she on a TV show?’ Jada’s gonna boycott the Oscars? Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited.”
Rock continued: “Jada’s mad her man Will was not nominated for ‘Concussion.’ I get it. I get it. Tell you truth, I get it. You get mad. Said it’s not fair that Will was this good and didn’t get nominated. You’re right. It’s also not fair that Will was paid $20 million for ‘Wild Wild West,’ OK?”
there's certainly some history between rock and the smiths. I don't think they like each other and chris rock has a big mouth

TBH this is more of my point now, I'm over "was it real or fake?" shite, the outright 100% right away believing it as true (or fake, tbh) is concerning. Add to the fact that any dissent (me just bringing up the other scenario) was immediately met with legions of wrong-think accusation is alarming even more.

This the same audience you regularly shite on for being idiots all the time on the OT, OML?

I don't think it's insane. In the aftermath, it just doesn't add up for me.
Not when Will Smith could've easily gotten a publicity win through winning his first-ever Oscar portraying a strong, Black man. If we were talking about a Will Smith that was fading into the oblivion, sure. But he's not.
And definitely not in the context of the current "wokeness" of the Oscars and its diversity push. If you thought the Oscars were irrelevant before, imagine them shitting away their current audience by orchestrating a on stage fight between two well-known Black celebrities.

It’s reminding me of a small scale 9/11 conspiracy argument, I’m enjoying watching it

I posted earlier in the thread that I thought it was fake at first. I thought it was a bit. but the more I thought about it and saw more reaction from the crowd, rock, and people consoling a teary eyed will smith, I changed my mind.
I thought the slap was wrasslin move quality until I watched the slow motion replay.

You can throw that in the pile with the other guy last night who compared it to moon hoax and Holocaust deniers.

Will Smith doesnt have anything to gain from this
Chris Rock doesnt have anything to gain from this
The Academy of Rapists doesnt have anything to gain from this
No one can give us a reason why anyone would stage this

I just don't get what either Will Smith or Chris Rock would get out of staging this. It wasn't a great look for either, obviously worse for Smith.

Most people immediately assumed it was a stunt until additional videos and information came out.
Some people can change their minds when new info comes out. Some people make a snap decision and stick to it, and any new info, however contrary to their original opinion, is used as proof that they were right.
I'm not saying that's you, but it's definitely the hallmark of Roger's standard progression in a thread like this, especially when he starts to ge the sense that he might be wrong.
