dont disagree. my point was more around how bad the local news stations in this area are. they really like to get folks whipped up into a frenzy. but i digress, ice is bad

The issue is that they start forecasting Winter weather 72+ hours out now. The damn storm is 100s of miles away and models struggle with Winter weather, particularly, that far out.

ETA: by "they" I mean local news/weather outlets.

Freezing rain can’t be scraped off the road,

Years ago an ice storm hit our area. I watched a guy with a hammer and chisel chipping away the ice off the road because he said he had to go to work in the morning regardless.

18z NAM is going the way of the GFS and sparing Mississippi. Yesterday it showed the extreme Northern counties on the tail-end of the heaviest band with snow accumulations of 10"+. Now, it is a spotty inch or two at best.

But the ice may be the big story with this one. Freezing rain accumulations of over an inch in areas on this run:

One of our local weather guys, Brian Goode, basically said this is one of the more complex winter deals he’s seen for our area in awhile and is flat refusing to make any predictions.

Curious what the Weatherdroppings crew has to say about that assertion.

Taking the wimpy way out.
Just go with something, attempt to justify it, then offer the reason it didn't happen next week.

That’s what I was afraid of. He’s pretty legit and doesn’t go too crazy when they do snow talk so for him to say that was a touch jarring.

Last time I heard something like that was the 90s. Predicted a dusting to an inch the night before, ended up with a foot.

My sister is right on the NC/SC border in the 1" freezing rain section. Maybe she'll get her fireplace working tomorrow after she didn't gaf when I was there over Christmas

See that heavy snow band on the backside of the low pressure? The one tracking over the east side of Kentucky? Well where that sets up could easily get 6-12" of snow and drive 30 minutes west and there's nothing. Complex game of low track and how much moisture can get pulled in.

And to make things more fun, you have two upper lows trying to phase together over the east coast.

Right now where I am the air temp is in the single digits but with the wind chill it's in the negative teens. Sunday into Monday we're supposed to get a foot plus of the white. It's not shaping up to be a fun weekend.

It was on the news that tickets for Saturday's game could be found on resale sites for $25.
