I never know whether to say Counce or Pickwick
The latter is probably more well known but isn’t actually a physical place

I've always noticed the BHM and HUN offices tend to under predict storms, etc. compared to adjacent weather offices.

Not really weather related, but they replaced old lights with what was supposed to be efficient LED bulbs recently and they all were bad bulbs that turned purple.
Are you in NC? My mother lives in the Triad area and there are a ton of those purple streetlights.
You were supposed to report to the power company of any lights that did change color.
I imagine they got plenty of calls.

I’m in Bryson City. Duke Power has said they’re going to replace the lights, but as of last night nothing has been replaced. This has been going on for at least a month now.

I’ve seen some of those purple/blue lights around here (triangle) too…. Didn’t know what was going on

The Highlands-Cashiers area is getting slammed. Love that area of NC.

If that actually happened, the world would end

You know that would have been an amazing post for it's own thread.
Posted on 1/15/22 at 6:07 pm to LegendInMyMind
I can't make that thread.

I don't see why not. You've got the graphics and everything.

Just title it "BLIZZARD IN LOUISIANA"
And post the graphic.
And post the graphic.

A recent statement from Duke Power to its customers:
Yikes
quote:
Forecasters are increasingly confident that the approaching winter storm will bring significant ice, sleet and snow to the Carolinas early Sunday and will persist throughout the day. These conditions could cause severe damage to trees, lines and poles, resulting in widespread and extended power outages.
Our meteorologists are closely monitoring the storm as we position crews across the Carolinas to quickly and safely respond to whatever the storm brings. We’ve also brought in crews from our Midwest and Florida regions, plus an additional 2,500 workers from neighboring utilities.
While we will face any storm damage with the full force of all available resources, the likelihood of widespread damage and difficult travel conditions could make this a long, complicated restoration process. Sunday’s precipitation may prevent us from making significant progress until the storm clears the area later that evening.
We urge all customers to prepare now and stay safe throughout the storm. We especially encourage anyone with special medical needs or elderly family members to make alternative shelter arrangements now, in advance of the storm.
Yikes

Where in the world did it come up with that?

On my way home on Friday I did see 5 bucket trucks headed down the road my subdivision is on. Hopefully they are staging somewhere near by. Gives me some hope that outage won’t be super long.

You don't see multiple model runs with areas of 1"+ of ice accretion and not worry. This could be a big mess.

Snowing in NETx, Upshur County. Basically a steady medium flake drizzle. NELa should see it soon I assume.

Down to 33 degrees here. We're setting up for more snow than "expected". HRRR on board
Posted on 1/15/22 at 8:22 pm to The Boat
We're at 38° already, 5° lower than where the locals had us being at this hour. I'm having a better feeling that we may over perform again on this one. Steady light rain.
