I had all 4 of mine (impacted) out when I was 17. I don't remember what they gave me to knock me out, but I do remember that I actually woke up during the procedure and they just pumped a little more in. The nice part was that it was family friend and he didn't charge my parents (but I also vaguely remember he may have tried a new procedure or something and I was a guinea pig, or that could have just been the drugs messing with my memory).

They gave me about a weeks worth of pain pills for after, but I didn't use any, I just looked two or three advil every so often. Really depends on your pain tolerance.

Depends on what you do for a living on whether or not you should take the day. If you stare at a computer, you'll probably be okay.

Thing to know: you will get tired of mashed potatoes

Most are sedated, but not all. It depends on location, severity of impaction, gag reflex, etc. Propofol is generally used, they will push just enough to put you out, but you will still be breathing on you own. Post-op pain varies from person to person, if they are impacted and the have to cut more, more pain. If they are fully erupted and they have emough tissue to stitch back over the extration sockets, there will probably be less pain. Work depends on how bad the extractions are and what you do for work.

Sedated, not out cold.

Next few days off. Don't spare the icepacks.

Oh, and dont try to eat something while you are still numb.

If you’re not late teens/early 20s anymore, recommend taking a couple days off. I used the hydrocodone for a couple of days afterward then went with Tylenol (mine were impacted so they had to cut into bone). I was given twilight for both of my surgeries.

Big thing is to avoid dry socket. No smoking, no straws, avoid eating foods with small pieces (go with jello, mashed potatoes, broth to start).

I had my bottom two removed at an outpatient surgery center, so was fully out.

You'll be out of it the rest of the day.

I was good to go back in the next day but had already taken off expecting recovery to be worse.. they prescribed oxycotin (or hydrocodone, don't remember..) but I didn't really need it.. ibuprofen would have been enough.

A few days later I got something stuck in the socket while it was healing.. that was the worst part, but it eventually flushed out.

Had my wisdom teeth removed. Was no big deal for me and I think that’s the case for most people. I had them removed on a Friday morning and could have worked the next day. The doctor prescribed hydrocodone and I took one pill the afternoon after surgery. Hydrocodone makes me nauseous so I refused to take anymore. Advil worked just fine for me.

I know results vary by patient but I was very happy with my Oral Surgeon.

It’s kind of annoying that I have to ask a message board these questions—my doctor didn’t tell me much except no eating or drinking after midnight and no alcohol for 3 days.

Been many years since I had mine removed and they didn't knock me out. I got a few good shots of the gas and was awake when the dentist broke them up a bit and then removed the rest.

My biggest problem was I had developed a dry socket in one of them and that crap hurts like hell. Had to go back to the dentist and he took care of it for me and from that day on it was not bad.

I've done 3 cases so far this morning.

Most are sedated. Usually with a benzodiazepine/propofol/etc

Everyone is different when it comes to post op pain. Some people are eating pizza that day, some people are pussies and cry for a week.

I would plan to do it on a Thursday or Friday so you have the weekend to recover.

Unfortunately the surgeon only does surgeries on one Tuesday a month.

Seems weird. I do them all day every day. I've got 10 more cases today for just wisdom teeth.

Way, way back in the day, pretty much everone I knew had them taken out during our Senior year in high school. My lower ones weren't growing in upright but into my back molars.
Back then it was done by an oral surgeon, fulll anesthesia and no after pain pills.
Back then the removal of uppers was expected to be simpler because of the wounds draining. With the lowers I was told to watch carefully for swelling because the wounds wouldn't drain a well.
It was done at the beginning of Christmas vacation, and no subsequent problems for any of us.

I had all 4 removed and had 2 extra tiny baby ones at the top, one behind each tooth. That was in high school IIRC.

Had to use a plastic syringe to shoot water into the empty sockets so no food, etc. got in there while they closed up naturally.

My kid had his out a few months back, it took 15 minutes and whatever they gave him he didn’t feel a thing, he was funny loopy though and I filmed it to embarrass or extort him with the video one day. lol

Not recently, it was 18 years ago. I had all 4 removed and was under. Don’t know what the drugs were.

Didn’t hurt at all for a while, I actually said “that wasn’t so bad, let’s do it again.” However, I was just so loopy and couldn’t feel my face, I couldn’t even find my mouth when I tried to drink some water when I got home.

Eventually the drugs wore off and it was definitely painful, but not excruciating or anything serious.

I would recommend taking some time off, not just due to the pain but the swelling. The day after my face swelled up, but only on one side. I thought I looked like freaking Popeye.
