All you can do, is raise, educate them, tell the difference between right and wrong.
Once outside the nest……hope you did the right thing.
I’m sitting on the farm with my daughter, two granddaughter's, one great granddaughter and one great grandson. ……everyone conservative as hell.
We don’t raise morons. Yes, we would turn the slime in.

I would imagine that secretly the father knew something was going to happen, there is no way a kid is this crazy and there were not signs along the way.
In a lot of these stories, I would agree with you. But in this case, the "kid" was 22, and based on the pictures appears he's living in a dorm or small apartment. We don't know what type of relationship they had once he went off to college, but it's easy to assume Tyler has been out of his parents' daily lives (as in they don't see him daily and he doesn't live at home) for 4-5 years now.

Parents already have guilt producing an offspring that did this...
You don't turn him in and he could shoot up a school next..
I would have insane guilt

I just can't really imagine if the dad here was a fairly normal, responsible guy and slowly coming to the realization that your kid did this and that you knew what you had to do.
It's just awful all around.

Lot of people on a message board downvoting this but I think more people than not would REALLY struggle and perhaps not do it. Especially if you know there’s a good chance they’ll be executed.

In a case like this, your hands are tied. There is no conceivable way in 2025 that he wasn’t going to be found and held accountable. Your family member (especially given he is an adult) has to face the consequences of his actions. I assume the Dad has a wife and maybe other children to protect and this was the only thing to be done.
ETA Until it comes out that they majorly contributed to his issues and were negligent in addressing them, I will feel remorse for them. The notoriety will ruin the lives of everyone closely connected to him. Jeffrey Dahmer had a totally normal brother who had to change his name and give up his whole identity. This isn’t quite the same as that, but you get the picture. It sucks, all around.

My dad died when I was young, one of the best things my mom did in raising me after that was to let me know that if I ever defied her authority or dropped the ball on right from wrong, I would suffer the consequences, no running to mommy.
Her sacrifice in manning up in his place kept me from ever testing that decision making for her.
So yeah, in honor of mom, I let it be known in advance, anybody that lets the family down by a chicken $hit deed will be served up to justice.

“I’d not accept any reward money”
I’d turn my child in if they committed a heinous act.I’d take the reward money but I wouldn’t keep it.I’d donate it to his widow for the benefit of the children or maybe donate it to Turning Point USA,for a scholarship program
something like that.Whatever his widow would want.
This situation is exactly why I was afraid to ever have children and never fathered any.
I’ve known so many people that had 2,3,4 children and 1 of them turns out to be a criminal or a degenerate derelict. The other children turn out fine but the 1 turns out rotten for some reason. It casts a dark cloud over the rest of the family and the parents never get over it.

I have a brother in law who turned in both of his sons at diff times for some crime committed. Brought them to the sheriff's office. Both caused some jail time but I could see it would be hard to do as a parent.

The dad was probably tired of his whiny liberal kid ruining thanksgiving and stuff anyway

The dad in this case actually didn’t take the money!
A very honorable guy.

Well, I guess this eliminates "parent" as an answer to the "Who would you call if you killed someone?" questions.
Seriously, I am very bothered by this shooting. Didn't know what to do except buy a TPUSA T shirt to wear and it was ordered yesterday,
But this parent/child question, I honestly think a lot of these answers in this post saying they absolutely would are just virtue signaling, except the ones invoking the "for the reward", I believe them

Let’s face it, life as you know it would already be over. If you didn’t turn him in, you’d have to keep your head on a swivel and probably never sleep again. And it’s not like you’re going to be enjoying family gatherings with him anymore anyway. He took it all away. You’d have to turn him in, as crushing as that is.

Yes, I would feel like I had no choice.

Yeah. But the kid was going to be found either way.
Ted K’s brother and his wife were living in Europe when they recognized his use of the phrase “Cool headed logicians” after Reno had his manifesto published. Then they knew they had to turn him in.

From 1st hand experience IT SUCKS! Nothing like this but I had my son incarcerated because he would do meth come to our house and spew Satanic sick crap at me and his Mom and threaten violence! After 7 rehabs and several nights in the local jail he went to a real prison for 7 months! It made him worse! He was supposed to go to 1 year of rehab after the 7 months in jail but the judge didn't follow through and anyway just think about his family, they should be left alone! Kid needs to tell us what made him do this Evil Satanic shite!

Yes, absolutely. A heinous act like this can't go unpunished.
It's what separates us from the animals.
I’m sure people wouldn’t believe me when I say this, but if it was me that had to turn my son in, I would probably look at donating any reward money to a charity or Kirk's family. I don't think I can enjoy the money knowing that I raised a monster and then profited off of being a failure of a father. Spending each dollar would just be a reminder of that.
It’s nice to see there is another side to parents after what Brian Laundrie’s family did.
