looking at vortex triumph 10x42 versus bushnell 16x50 powerview... Both listed for the same price ($99.99)... any thoughts/advice from the OB? Any other suggestions within the $100 price range?

I have the Vortex Diamondback HD 10x42 and they seem to be good. I think you can find them on sale for $150

If you’re hunting in woods, I recommend against 10x or above.

Levee, these will mainly be used in box stand hunting and would likely be transported to the stand in a backpack or worn around the neck...

thanks, turkish... so you would say, definitely not the 16x50? (as some hunting will be in the woods/cutovers, but mostly cleared out shooting lanes anywhere from 75 yards to maybe 200 at the longest and on occasion)

8 or 10 x is all you need.

I have a pair of Vortex Viper that do a good job. Not in your price range though.

Not what you asked, but before last year I bought a monocular that I liked. I enjoyed using it and it was easy to put into my pocket. Felt like it was a little less movement to put it to my eye that a set of binoculars.

I have had these for 4 or 5 years. No complaints.

In general, higher magnifications are harder to hold steady and have smaller fields of view. Additionally, cheaper binos normally look worse at higher mags.

If you hunt the woods at all, some compact 8x32s or 8x42s might do you better. It seems like the Bushnell trophy 8x32s are well reviewed in that price range.

even for my larger fields that are around 2 acres...they are more than enough

10-4, I think the Triumph would be a good entry level pair for a kid especially for only $99. The reviews online look solid.

This but, If you're hunting in woods I recommend using your rifle depending where you hunt. Public land I'd grab the binoculars. If it's a good buck, he's not posing. Picking up the binoculars there is a chance he's gone when you grab the rifle.

I wouldn't go any higher than 10x because

Give MAVEN a look. 10x42 is a good all around magnification.

8x or 10x would be best.

I have a pair of 15x that I use for field edges and also glassing points out West.
