Was listening to the EXO podcast yesterday and they were talking about one of their friends who was using the new feature to mesg from the backcountry.
Supposedly you need an iPhone 14 or newer I’m still rocking an 11.
Anyone use it yet is it legit seamless and reliable?
I may upgrade instead of getting an in reach.

Not having a satellite based cell phone system has cost lives. No reason it wasn’t that way from the start.
I have a Zoleo that works off satellites and blue tooth’s to my phone. It’ll be obsolete soon. Looking forward to the phone upgrade.

Right. Its amazing it's taken this long for it to become a feature, at least an optional one.

They say in 2 years Starlink will just be an app directly on your phone, no receiver dish needed. Can't wait

I did t realize it was a thing yet. I may be able to toss the inreach soon.

Will samsung come out with this soon? I may have to go back to Apple.

Android 15 will supposedly have the same feature in its next release (sometime this month likely).

Depending on your use case, I've heard mixed reports from the iOS sat messaging. My sole usage of satellite messaging is while fishing offshore. One report was that it worked fine, up until 30ish miles offshore. I believe this was on the East Coast. That person still had zero connectivity beyond that point.

Either way, I expect the tech to improve substantially over the next couple of years. I am also thankful that my wife (iphone user) has finally been upgraded to RCS enabled text messaging, allowing me (android user) to finally be able to send/recieve high quality images and videos.

I think it’s T Mobile that has teamed up with Starlink.

Well shite. I just bought a Garmin inreach mini 2.

I will likely keep it as a backup, just in case my phone dies.

I listened to the same podcast. I’ll probably keep my ZOLEO active until I can test out the iPhone system. I would hate to be in a SOS situation and be unable to select the right satellite or have cracked my phone screen.

Not sure the iPhone system is live yet. I see that you can run a demo but I don’t see how you activate it.

But, I’ve not done much research on that yet.

I just downloaded and installed IOS 18 and checked out the satellite messaging feature. This is a nice upgrade. I do a lot of boating and get out of cell phone tower coverage often. I’ll be able to check out the satellite messaging in a few weeks. I’ll probably keep my inreach mini for the SOS feature.
