So I bow hunt but have been kicking the idea around of finally buying a "primitive " gun. Right now the 350 legend has my eye are there any other ones I should research before i pull the trigger

I have a 45-70 and just won a 350 legend. I probably won’t use the 45-70 anymore.

There’s nothing wrong with it just understand it was made to loophole some very specific cartridge restrictions in the mid-west, so that was the design intent and target market. May be tough to find ammo in the south once the novelty wears off. 35 whelen is just badass period, primitive or not.

Any of y’all use a suppressor on the 35 Whelen?

35 Whelen is a .35-06.

You probably won’t find one anymore, but my .38-55 WIN is a wonderful cartridge. 255 grain bullet and I’ve killed out to 190 yards with it.

And it could take any game on the NA Continent, with 180gr Barnes TTSX it's devastating.

I switched from the Barnes 200g TTSX to the 200g Federal Fusion. I've killed deer with both but that Fusion knocks the shite out of them.

Paul Revere definitely hunted with one of these.

Not throwing any shade, just love how this is called "primitive".

I like how some people hunt primitive with one of those, and then put it in the cabinet and take out their .30-30 when regular rifle season begins.

Just charge me $20 extra every year to hunt 2 extra weeks with whatever I want.

Agree. How many times do you get to take a second shot at a deer?

I’ve never seen anyone do that but it’s pretty funny to think that someone has.

The only time I can recall taking a second shot at a deer was with my Ruger no. 1

From the charts I'm looking at the 350 Legend has less than 800 ft-lbs of energy at 200 yards. The 35 Whelen has over 2000. That's both with 180 grain bullets.

I'd go with the Whelen.

Yeah I have to do it all the time, but sometimes I don’t feel like putting my 45-70 barrel on my encore so I just get by.

45-70 is great in thick woods and no tracking. 35 is probably the way to go on food plots and longer shots

Mississippi is weapon of choice after first Primitive split.

I am just partial to my 45-70
