Fished yesterday afternoon and this morning, only 8 keepers. Tons of small trout. The exact same time last year we tore up the trout and they were are all 16” and up. What gives with that. I don’t fish the area much. Is it the norm to catch mostly small trout on the rocks and last year was anomaly?

I haven’t fished the long rocks past couple years. Started focusing more on Eloi. I found it to be very hit or miss. Had one summer where I killed them almost every time on live croakers, then next summer it was struggle bus every trip. I was burning up too much time going over there.

Also fished the long rocks today and a lot of other places in the general area. It was a tough day fishing. Water clarity was not good. The times I have done well on the long rocks or mostly anywhere for speckled trout there is a requirement for decent water clarity.

If I wanted to find better water should I go west toward Delacroix or East toward Biloxi Marsh?

On which side of the rocks is the best fishing ? If the gulf side, is very hard and confusing to get there ? Thanks

It's not very hard. Can take the spoil canal. Find the video on YouTube of Cpt Devin showing the route.

The hopedale area changes every year. Last year my buddy caught lots of big trout almost year round never leaving the MRGO. This year the pattern seems to change on a weekly basis.
Seems like the best reports right now are happening in the port sulfur/GI areas

I don’t know much about Hopedale yet. Mainly fish the rock dam and long rocks. What areas in lake/bay Eloi should I look for. Are there oyster beds out there or certain structure to look for TIA

I believe he's talking about the rock lined channel at the end of the MRGO. You can get there running the spoil canal that starts right at Hopedale Marina and you can pop out into the MRGO near the top of the long rocks.

We fished it last weekend. Water was dirty and wind was howling. Ended up catching 20 or so fish. Lot of 12" trout but we did catch some solid 16-18" fish. Sheepshead as always saved the trip. Cleanest water was in Lake Borgne. Found a few reds and flounder. Overall tough trip, but we got some grease hot and had a good time.

I didn’t think the water clarity looked that bad. What happened with us, we would catch 1 or 2 keepers and the dolphins showed up. Nothing but little ones then. Move 100 yds down, same thing again , catch 1 or 2 and dolphins show up again. Same thing everytime we moved. Guess they were following our boat.
