I pay it every year because shooting dinks on their public land is cheaper than shooting dinks on a lease/club in Louisiana. Plus, I like stimulating the economy of the delta region. They need the help.

And it also applies to 7 day licenses as well!

Maybe people in Louisiana should manage their wildlife resources as well as the people from Mississippi. Then you guys could stay closer to home and you wouldn't have to buy non resident licenses

I’ll get right on that. Meanwhile try to focus. The discussion is license fees and whether or not land owners should be exempt. Try to keep up. Do you think land owners should have to pay over $500 in licenses even after paying all the other shite?!?! Like property taxes and such?

I don’t see that ever changing. The state of Mississippi is making too much money charging non residents to hunt here . My dad was very bitter about that. He was a native of Simpson county but moved away after he got back from Vietnam. He owned 20 acres in Amite county and didn’t hunt the last few years of his life.
The hunters from La provide a huge amount of revenue off of NR licenses. I looked it up and revenue from NR hunting license was $19 million dollars in 2023.If they quit paying it the fees may change . I don’t see that happening and I’d imagine the NR fees will continue to escalate.

Fyi, you're the one arguing that property taxes pay the the salaries of the game wardens. Or at least that's what I think you're saying.

As it stands, the State owns the wildlife. We pay them through hunting and fishing fees, ect to manage it for better or worse. Property taxes, for all intents and purposes, do not cover this expense.

Honestly I'm not sure why even a resident landowner gets a pass on a license. They are hunting the State's wildlife same as any other hunter.

If you don't like the view of the State owning the wildlife then start politicin'

For me, I generally like and appreciate game wardens and how the state manages wildlife. Certainly not perfect but seems to work pretty well.

Two questions:

When you tabulate your budget for land ownership, interest, taxes, cost of capital, food plots, gear, stands, etc , what percentage of the total opportunity cost is the $500 for the license?

Other question: if states lower their license fees, what alternative revenue stream do you propose to fund Wildlife and Fisheries Departments?

If only the MS/LA latitude state line went north 40 miles

Maybe if brackish water went north to Flowood MS too

Greatly fund the management of wildlife, not the wildlife.

And I don't understand what your point was even if accurate anyway.

My parents own property in SW Miss where they live. I’ve been hunting there for 30 years. Here’s the fricked up part, one day when I own the property, I WILL STILL HAVE TO PURCHASE NON RESIDENT

I own several pieces a property under an LLC, I don't purchase a license. There's just not enough enforcement around to concern me. If I hunted a lease or public, I'd probably get a license. Are there a lot GWs out and about down there? There are very few in N MS.

It’s crap but their deer management is a hell of a lot better than Louisiana.

They keep it at that price because they know that every coonass in south LA will make the trip up there to hunt and I don’t blame them. Deer hunting in south LA is hard work

Admittedly you got me. Im projecting a bit on the heels of LA’s own problems with insurance(state farm and other big ones are leaving jan 1 2025 fyi new policies) and hunting licenses. It should be financially easy to hunt. I know that has nothing to do with what we are talking about here. Just seems hunters like us, mostly middle income dudes, always take it up the rear financially. I dont own MS property but aspire to one day. You'd think we would rally to help each other regardless the state we reside in especially when it comes to hunting

Higher fees sure don't help the working man from other states be able to enjoy the great outdoors. I get it that it sucks. It really sucks for the uncles of 16 yo's who don't have any money and look to their MS uncle to pay the OOS fees. I have 3 of those and about to have 4. A couple of them are are indifferent to hunting. Those couple no longer get invited to come hunting at my expense. Imo, hunting/fishing licenses should start at 18 no matter the residence.

I don't think its any mystery why out of staters get the shaft though. MDWFP needs funding and it knows it can raise rates on people who don't vote in the state without pissing the electorate off.

I bought a lifetime license when I moved to TN.

Still sucks to have to buy my son’s license though.
Hunting land I own.
