I have an elderly family member in East Texas I need to move a sizeable travel trailer for to a different property of theirs about 1 hour away. It hasn’t been moved in a few years and I don’t trust axles/tires on highway.

Never had to do before. Besides getting a spare, what do I need to be worried about? Bearings, brakes, brake lights? Would it be easier to pay a service to move on a flatbed? I imagine that will be cost prohibitive but no idea what that might cost.

Well obviously, change the things you dont trust. You can do stuff to give it a better chance of making it drama free.

Get the weight down as low as possible, leave at a time of minimal traffic, go slow, have a spare tire and preferably a spare hub and the tools to deal with it. Take out all the crap that doesnt have to be in there and transport that with a different trailer.

Go slow. Get the weight down. Go slow.

Bring a spare an impact and spare bearings and you won’t need them, don’t bring them and 100% you will need them!!

Spare tire - on a rim that will fit the trailer.
Couple of wooden blocks and some traffic cones
Floor jack

Jack all wheels up beforehand to be sure they are spinning freely….repack any wheel bearings that have slack or don’t turn freely.

Get one of those remote IR thermometers (shaped like a little pistol. Stop every 15 minutes in a safe location and take temps on all of the hubs…thst will tell you if you have a bearing going out.

Honestly, if tires are halfway decent, you don’t have much to worry about. How large a trailer are we talking about?

width and height more important than length. Scout your route and make sure there’s no obstacles (narrow bridges, low trees or lines, etc). Some dipshit moved a double wide up the road from me last year and got it stuck on the creek bridge blocking the only access in or out…for ten hours

In that case, it has undoubtedly not been jacked up. The tires will be flat spotted all to hell or flat. You will need tires on it before it is moved.
