I'm in the market for a new rifle to not kill any deer with this upcoming season. Trying to do it without breaking the bank on the gun and glass though. Prefer a smaller caliber. Suggestions?

I didn't really like the safety on the axis. Seemed like it'd be really easy to knock off.

Keep the rifle unloaded until you get to the stand.

204? wtf?

Tikka T3
.243
25-06

Vortex seems to get pretty good reviews, and they seem to have excellent customer service. Probably worth checking out.

You do realize that it's illegal to shoot deer with anything .22 or less, right?

If you're meaning a deer rifle, but not planning see any deer, get an Encore in .243. Even with a 24" barrel it's still easy to handle inside a box stand or ground blind. The .243 is lethal and legal for deer and also has light factory varmint loads available for fun stuff. 7mm-08 is popular too but not as many factory ammo options and harder to find ammo in Baumphuche, La.

If you looking for a gun not to be used for deer then get said encore with a .204 barrel or maybe even an AR style in .204 Although to much for squirrels and not legal for deer, this is just a fun round. A 32 Grain V-max at over 4000fps will turn a turtle into a vapor cloud on impact.

Disclaimer: Although the V-max hollow point generally disintegrates on impact, when shooting into water be aware of possible ricochets and what's beyond the horizon.

Yes. It is not legal to shoot with anything smaller than a .22 centerfire. Considering he doesn't want to kill deer, I think he should be fine. You should all learn to read

I read that as being sarcastic meaning he is going to sit in his blind all season and never actually kill anything.

why do you dudes have such a hard on for a Tikka rifle?

Because they are reasonably priced rifles that perform well out of the box. They have a better fit and finish than Savages imo. Not saying they are more accurate, just that if I wanted an inexpensive rifle, T3 is the way I would go.

They are great rifles that aren't super expensive.

I would love to have a kimber, sako, or a browning x bolt. But not everyone can afford that expensive of a rifle plus decent glass to put on it. I've always been taught that its more important to have a really good scope than it is to have a super nice gun.

ETA: Now is a good time to be looking on louisiana sportsman for deals, people wanting to sell their current deer rifle to upgrade for the season. Last year around this time I stumbled upon a tikka t3 .270 short mag with a zeiss conquest 3-9 X 50 scope for $700 in perfect condition. Worked well for me last season.

Subtle brag..
