Should have taken a picture, but Sam's had a Members Mark cooler with wheels on sale. Looks just like these in store for $174. 40Qt I think it was. YETI/RTIC killer.
I bought the Members Mark rolling cooler. It was okay. I was fine with it for the price.
Then I put a 1,000 lumen flashlight inside. I could see a bunch of light through the cup holders and the lid. If it was properly insulated, it would be good (wheels are too small, so it won't work on sand worth a damn. So I'm going to get my money back tomorrow. Hopefully, Sam's is as good as Costco about returns, because I don't have a receipt.
Luckily, I found a great deal on Craigslist. I just bought an Igloo Sportsman 55 QT cooler for $80 ($175+ tax at Sam's, $225-250 elsewhere). It's damn near new.
I also bought a Ozark Trail 26 for $40 ($100+ tax).
I'm not sure if it's worth a shite yet. I wanted a small one for drinks and food at work. But for $40, I can easily sell it and get my money back. Does anyone know anything about the Ozarks Trail Coolers?
I highly recommend anyone buying a high end cooler to bring a very strong flashlight with them, to check the insulation. It's hard to see in the light. But you can always run the light around the sides to check. Or bring a blanket.
Though if you already have one, don't test it with the light. You might be good. You might just become sad that you got ripped off.

The Ozark Trail cup I have is as good as my Yeti, and the soft side cooler I got from Walmarks has been decent.

Are people having trouble with the Rtics? I bought an Artic 20 and have had zero problems so far.

I always thought these roto molded coolers used the same concept behind the Thermos' and the "insulation" is air which is a poor heat conductor or even better, a vacuum like the Thermos. So there would not be any foam or other light blocking material in the middle of the plastic shell. Light passing through would be based on the opacity of the plastic, and would depend on the thickness and/or amount of opaque pigment in the plastic. This wouldn't really tell you anything about its ability to keep ice, or heat. I could be completely wrong though.

Yep. I know that Yetis are filled. I would assume the same is true for other brands.

Same, also have the 45 and no issues there either.

Extra tough plastic without imperfections (except for Chad's because he probably deserves it) with very dense insulation in them, coupled with seals to keep warm air out.
The dense insulation is the reason for the weight that everyone complains about

My 20 only holds ice for a day maybe a day and a half. Defiantly not worth the money I spent on it. I got a Polar Bear 6-pack soft side that holds ice better than my RTIC 20.

no offense, but I will never understand people buying "high quality" 20 quart coolers. What would one be keeping on ice in a 20 quart that wouldn't be consumed or transferred in a day? (Eliminating the need for ice retention and making the cost hard to justify)
The 35-45-65...I get that. You can actually fit more stuff in those than you can consume in a day or two, so it's imperative that they keep ice. A 20 quart $15 Coleman is going to keep the same amount of ice and beer as a 20 quart $200 yeti, and that amount is not 2 days worth of beer. I'll stop ranting now, just never really understood that. It's a small amount of ice, or course it's going to melt faster

I want to hear from someone that bought the Yeti bucket. I would rather light money on fire and at least Id get some warmth for a second or two.

For me, work. I can leave it in my truck when at home, and have get to skip a day between buying a bag. At least that's the hope. If it turns out to not be worth it, I'll probably sell mine. And I can probably even make money, since I bought mine cheap on Craigslist.

I routinely pack food in mine whether we are travelling on vacation or going sailing for a weekend. Usually I pack fresh fish that has not been frozen for us to eat and never freeze.

I bought mine because I just bought some property that we are clearing off and was hoping to put some Powerade and water in it for the weekend. But even in the back of my jeep I still have to stop and get a bag of ice for it the second morning.

I won a yeti Roadie in an NRA raffle. It the 20qt. We use it all the time. My FIL used it last summer when he was spending the week in Atlanta getting cancer treatments. He'd fill it before he left on Monday. and it would still have ice when he came back home on Friday. He thought that buying a yeti was insane until using one. He's now a firm believer. A friend gave him his first for his birthday last August.

No offense but I just don't see a senario where a 20qt cooler would hold ice for 5 days unless it was kept in a refrigerator. I assume he was using the cooler to keep something cold and was opening the cooler from time to time to get said item out.
Posted on 7/19/17 at 7:40 pm to highcotton2
He only kept ice in it and would fill his cup 2-3 times a day.

I did this to my 20 quart K2 and it glowed like a light bulb. It will hold ice for 3 days though.
K2 advertises their coolers as "light weight", so I'm guessing their insulation isn't as dense as the others.

Assuming you're talking about the rotomolded 20qts. I know people that use them for elevated platforms while sight fishing or as seats for tiller handles. The soft sided coolers are much more practical than hauling a hard cooler around.
