We're in the tail end of the spring migration here in the Florida Panhandle.
Yeah, it's winding down. I've been spending weekends exploring St. Marks wildlife refuge since the state parks are shut down. Lots of Bay Breasted Warblers a few days ago. A rare Black-whiskered Vireo showed up and created some excitement for birders. Not a great spring for warblers but quite a few thrushes including Veery and Gray-cheeked Thrush; both are usually hard to come by. Out of my office window I had 7 Indigo Buntings in the oak which was nice. Chuck Will's Widows are calling like crazy at dawn and Northern Parulas are calling everywhere in the day. A few recent photos:

[/img]Just saw my first Baltimore Oriole in East Texas. The very first I’ve seen in my six decades. I’ll post a pic if I can. This post was edited on 5/13/20 at 4:17 pm

We got a Baltimore oriole in south MS about 10 days ago...it drank for minutes at one of our hummingbird feeders. About the brightest orange I have ever seen!

Not a song bird but I found a Mississippi Kite sitting in a nest a tree over my driveway this afternoon.

I think I have a Goldfinch that has a nest but my quick google search led me to believe they aren’t common here
Bet what you saw was a Louisiana Yellow Warbler. Fine looking bird. Got a few nesting pairs around the house. Cool looking little bird. They started showing up around my house 3-4 years ago. They will come and land on the patio table within 2' from me.

I saw 1 here in Lake Charles 2 weeks ago. Beautiful Bird. I have not seen one here before that I can remember.
Just checked their migration, from NE USA, Mid West and Central Canada to South Mexico, Central America, South Florida.
Looks like they do pass through here on migration I would think.
Cool to see.
On the Painted Bunting. Incredible Bird. We see them west of Eldorado, TX at the deer lease during Turkey Season. Definitely a pleasure seeing those.

Yellow Warblers don't breed in the south either. Perhaps you're thinking of a prothonotary warbler?

We got one of them in a box behind the house.
I saw some Carolina chickadees and some downy woodpeckers in the liveoak next to my back door as well

American Goldfinch winter down here but wouldn't be nesting here. Tell us a bit more about the bird and nest
You can see eggs in the corner, the nest is in a bird house made from a large gourd

This is the first year I have had them
The bird house is under the patio
They will not go back to the nest with me outside

LSUJML you've got a pair of prothonotary warblers. Beautiful birds, enjoy!

Google Louisiana Warbler. They are pure yellow. And these birds do nest here.

The one painted I've seen was in the woods near Logansport, LA.

Google Louisiana Warbler.
No such thing. There's a Louisiana Waterthrush (Parkesia motacilla) which is a drab brown and white bird. And a Yellow Warbler (Setophaga petechia), which you have pictured there, that migrates through LA but is not documented as breeding in LA. So if you have a Yellow Warbler nesting it would definitely be something to report.

The American yellow warbler (aestiva group; 6 subspecies) breeds in the whole of temperate North America as far south as central Mexico in open, often wet, woods or shrub. It is migratory, wintering in Central and South America.

If you have documentation a yellow warbler breeding in Louisiana it would be newsworthy among bird nerds like myself. Last documented nest in TX was in 1956. The last LA Breeding Bird Atlas (BBA) results I can find is old (1994-1996) but no any confirmed or probable Yellow Warbler breeding records in the state. FL BBA2 which I was a part of reported 4confirmed breeding records in the FL keys (the Caribbean subspecies.)
So yes, please forward along any photos you might have of the birds you are seeing, it would be exciting to see.

Will try to get pictures. One pair started building a nest in the cup holder on my wife's bike.
They still come around every day.

Here is the nest with one egg. The birds were not around, but the wife said she saw them early. I spent the day inside today.
Will keep a eye out for them tomorrow.
