I was at the Tensas River National Wildlife Refuge visitors center sitting in my truck talking on the phone a few years ago.
A Prothonotary Warbler lit on my passenger side rear view mirror. Couldn’t get a pic.
Beautiful bird named after robes worn by Certain Catholic clergy in Rome.

In the Contraband Pointe area near the Lake Charles casinos, I have seen quite a few Great-Crested Flycatchers and several Eastern Kingbirds. I have not seen any warblers. Have they migrated north?

Update on that nest. There are two eggs now, but no birds in sight.

Most of the ones that just pass thru to breed further north have already done so. The breeders should still be around. Prothonotaries and northern parulas

Looks like it could be a yellow warbler nest.

If it is, it would be noteworthy, as no source I am aware of has yellow warblers breeding in Louisiana.

Could also be a prothonotary nest, more likely given range and propensity to nest in human structure. Looking forward to a pic of the bird.

Stayed outside a couple hours watching and no birds. Used to raise pigeons and they would leave to nest to feed and came right back. Don't know about these.

She's laying right now, will lay one egg a day, or every other day, till the clutch is complete. Then she'll start sitting.

I don’t know much about warblers, but that nest looks a lot like this one that Prothonotary Warblers built.

All warbler’s nest/eggs might look the same I really wouldn’t know

Honestly, that would be even cooler. I would love to trade a prothonotary for the damn wrens building nests in every hole around my house.

Got close and was ready to take a picture, but the dam bird flew to fast. Will try again today.

Take a sec next time to notice two things: wing color, and any streaks on the belly/chest. There are a couple of yellow-colored warblers that are expected to breed in Louisiana, even without a picture we may be able to help you ID it with careful description.

What you don't want to do is piss the bird off and have her abandon the nest ;)

This could be a pain but it would be interesting for us if you listed them. That's a lot of different kinds of songbirds.
