HaHa! Prime Robin Williams was so funny!
I'm not miserable, I'm enjoying myself.
In fact, gonna load #50 rounds for the 20 VarTarg tonight.

I think Tigeronthehill's gun purchasing decisions went the same way as robin williams' description of inventing golf - how can we make this as difficult and miserable as possible?

All kind of wrong info all in this thread
I’ve never used Silencer Shop.
But I did just find out they charge $50 to Form 1 something. So there’s that.
https://www.silencershop.com/atf-form-1-service.html
I’m sure they still pass in the cost of processing a Form 4 to someone in the cost of their suppressors. You just don’t see it.
ETA: They’re prices are probably MAP + $50 I’d bet.

r/NFA is telling me the $50 is the ATF processing fee they charge for doing the paperwork for you.
For a Form 1, which has nothing to do with buying a silencer. You are more so paying for the convenience of going to a kiosk as a one stop shop to get printed and file the Form 1

As mentioned earlier by someone else, I find they routinely have the best prices.
A shop that has a kiosk will never (or should never I should say) charge a transfer for any NFA item (suppressors, sbr’s, etc.) that is purchased through Silencer Shop. It’s part of the agreement in having the kiosk.

I’m not up to date on this thread or other drama, just replying to this specific part of this comment…
No one should be paying this. Take that $50 and get your own EFT files made. I think Capitol Armory does them, or Wojtek, or National Gun Trust, or others. An EFT is just a fancy photocopy of your fingerprints. They mail you a blank card and ink, you take your fingerprints, and mail the card back. They email you the files. You own them forever, they aren’t locked behind silencer shop’s website.
With those EFT’s and a iPhone selfie against a plain background, you can submit your own Form 1’s. That means you can SBR any serialized receiver you want. It’s pretty much as simple as filing out a 4473, the same form you filled out when you bought the serialized “firearm”, and uploading the selfie and EFT. Extremely simple and straightforward.
I would consider this an “amnesty period” because if the federal government decides that the tax that was $200, is now $0, but next month is going up to $20,000 or some other arbitrary amount, there isn’t anything anyone can do about it.
Point being, buy a couple stripped lowers now for <$75 each. Register them as SBR’s as mentioned above, then if in the future you decide you want to build something as an SBR, you can, without the registration or tax being a concern.
Hell, register a Glock lower or one the Sig FCU’s as SBR’s too. That way if you ever want to put one in a chassis, they can have a full fledged rifle stock instead of a gimped pistol brace.

These have been hard to find (the hub variant so you can do 3lug if you want) and are one of the top (if not the best) 9mm subgun cans if anyone is in the market for that use. Also is outstanding with 38spl on my Henry.

Those PTR’s are legit. I want one for my 16 inch bolt .308. I think they have the best sound suppression on Pew Science. They also did very well in the Thunder Beast test.

MAP pricing =/= MSRP pricing
MAP = minimum advertised price (there's a maximum price as well... i think).
i'm willing to bet $1299 is the minimum price a vendor can advertise as. some places can get around the MAP price displaying "Add to Cart for Best Price" on the item listing.

Is there any logic to getting 1 top notch can for use across 30 cal, 5.56, .270, 6.5? I have all of those rifles. My thought was cheap can for cheap AR, but if I can use it everywhere...

Just depends on your performance expectations. A do-it-all can is certainly better than no can at all, but it won’t perform as well as individual ones designed for specific calibers/uses.

Yes. Itll be a lot cheaper than buying 4 dedicated cans. A .30 cal can will usually work ok on the 5.56 and pretty well on the 270 and 6.5.
I wouldnt worry about the backpressure thing. I think its a grossly overblown concern. A VERY overgassed AR can generally be tamed down with a buffer swap.
You can get one of the erector set cans with swapable end caps and all that shite but I personally would prefer a good single sealed .308 can like a AB raptor 8 or TBAC or something else along those lines, depending on what your wants are (size, weight, durability, etc).
Of course, try before you buy is preferable but not usually an option.

I can only speak to my Cat WB which is a low back pressure can.
Sound is as quiet or quieter than my other cans on my AR (the WB is a dedicated .22 can vs me using .30 cal).
One of the more noticeable things to me is the lack of gases that you get in face.
AR with a standard can is bad about gases in your face.

Which 9mm/45 should I get? Would prefer a hub adapter mount.

I started with a Silencer Co Harvest Evo .30 cal can. I’ll use it on my 300 Blackout AR, .308 AR, .308 Bolt Sako and .30’06 Sako. It would work fine I think for a .270 but the one of those I have is way too nice to thread. I’m now going to buy a rimfire can and an Otter Creek Polonium 5.56 for my other AR and it will be only for that rifle. From the (admittedly limited) research I’ve done, it seems like the best value in a 5.56 specific can when comparing db’s vs dollars. $522 plus tax at my local gun shop. A&M Pawn in Monroeville AL. There’s not a better gun shop in 100 mile radius. Maybe 200. Decent selection and VERY nice and helpful people

People almost always start with this concept, but almost always end up buying multiple cans.
The reason has a lot to do mostly with convenience so you don't have to keep up with multiple zeros on multiple weapons and hope your zero stays the same when you keep changing the can from weapon to weapon, system to system and caliber to caliber.
What you end up with is one great can and a few budget ones and then you're trying to change out all the muzzle devices. It can get quite expensive.
