Would be too light for you now, me thinks. Marlin 1895 in .45-70 would be a better fit.

another fine gun. I'll take one with a straight grip, 18" stainless pipe, and walnut.

I don't think anyone mentioned the Winchester 1873 or a Winchester Model 12.

Winchester Model 12.
Got one in 16 guage. Never liked having to move the pump action forward for a split second before being able to slide it backwards to eject the shell.

No, its a 12. Dont know why, and it may just be this one gun, but after you fire it you have to put forward pressure on the pump action for a split second, and then you can pump the gun like normal. I think it may be the gun, I dont know of others that act like that?

How old is it. I have a model 1897 with exposed hammer, and in order to pump the slide you have to do like you described, but when shooting it I don't even notice the forward movement. I think the recoil takes care of it.

No, its a 1940s model 12 in 16 guage. I'm familiar with the 1897/exposed hammer. Saw some of those at the tale end of the western cowboy days and early '20s Chicago gangster days.

model 1897

It's a Johm M Browning design.
The action's not as smooth as a model 12, but they area little bit slimmer and trimmer than one.

I think I prefer the model 1897. That exposed hammer makes the gun badass!

Cmon man. No love for the pop gun? I cant think of a better design for a swamp gun. Mine is averaging a little over a notch a year

Other than the idea that it's "cool" which is a common theme for you, that design has no real purpose anymore. It's not good at anything really.

It's VERY good for the kind of hunting i do.

Its short as hell, light, shoots well, and points fast. I can carry it all day very easily and not get all tangled up in the briars and stuff. Its a very good gun for hunting on the ground and i'll take it over a bolt action 100% of the time in the swamp.

Everything it does is done better by something else. Enjoy your gun.

An old Model 12 is hard to beat. By far the smoothest action of any pump. It's almost efforless.
