Based on the photos posted from the rally and a ballistics program , appears the shooter was approximately 146 yds from Trump. The sniper(s) had a clear 142 yd shot to take him out.

20-yr-old shooter climbed on top of this building which had a metal tin roof. Temp was 87 degrees yesterday evening & sunny as the tin roof was probably hot and uncomfortable to lay on. Thank goodness this idiot was inexperienced and pulled the shot.

One of the pics I saw it appears that he didn’t have a scope. I think he got lucky and grazed his ear and was probably holding center mass.
Not sure many experienced shooters would attempt a head shot with a mil spec ar open sights at 125yd

Yeah I can’t imagine he was very calm. He was about to shoot “literally Hitler” and knew he was probably gonna be blasted to hell shortly thereafter. WTF? Why am I being downvoted for this? That’s what those leftist retards think, he’s literally Hitler to them.

Honest answer, the only reason he's alive is blind luck.

He turned his head at the perfect moment.

Had the shooter fired varmint loads and aimed for the chest he'd be dead.

Jesus... I've shot lots of things for God and country.

When my oldest was 13, she could have closed the deal.

It was 100% an assassination attempt complimented by someone exploiting a vulnerability and executed by a nerd fighting his glasses and the weapon

Could be wrong

Said he was on his high school rifle team.
In all probability, that would have been .22 long rifle

That would be an easy shot if you were aiming at paper and the wind could have played a very small factor. Trump literally dodged death by less than an inch so a 1.5" wind drift at around 150 yards may have done it. That said, the shooter had to be absolutely shaking with adrenaline while trying to take out a former POTUS, knowing a deputy saw him, and knowing he was about to die. I've had buck fever and missed my aiming point by 6" at similar range so its honestly impressive he got off the first shot that hit trump with all that going through his head. Also, the low res images of the gun looks like it had a red dot with no or minimal magnification

Maybe but I have to assume he was in a rush and nervous. Trump happened to turn his head or it would’ve been a kill shot.

I was wondering why he didn’t shoot for the torso but someone said Trump might’ve been wearing a vest.

I don’t think body armor can stop a rifle round except for the plates worn on the chest and back.

Military body armor gives little to no protection on a side shot as far as I know.

Maybe they have some special body armor we don’t know about?

Wind was an infinitesimal factor here

That makes sense, if it was drifted even half a inch, with his head movement right at the shot, it caused the graze.

half inch and its a head shot, inch and half and its center mass, and we are looking at civil war.

Everyone keeps talking about this wind drift like it was the only thing that saved him. Even assuming full wind it would be the smallest factor that made the shot move. I haven’t seen the wind direction laid out over the course of fire but the wind may have pushed it 1in closer to the ear!!
I saw someone say it was a Red dot he was using it looked like open sight rifle in the pic I saw. Assuming it’s a red dot your talking 4moa for the dot and a 2moa gun at best so that’s almost a 9in group if the shooter does his part at 150yd.
The reason most misses happen is “we suck”.

frick the wind. go outside and imagine someone 150 yards away being able to get on a building with a direct line of sight on a former president. people need to end up in jail over this at least 1 person lost their life due to this. unfathomable that this was allowed to happen with just complacency. trump is truly one lucky mfer.

First thing I thought when he missed.

I still get a little buck fever killing a doe for meat. I would bet that dude's heart was racing before he shot.
