[/img] Im thawing out stripers (very similar to sandies) to fry up tomorrow. Your fillets should look like that. No red.

Does the potential poon smell more fishy than that cooler?

I eat them. I do find they have a very mild fishy taste if they are spawning, otherwise they are fine to eat. However, Black poon is pretty good too.

The broken lines indicate they are hybrid white bass - striped bass. Those don't typically occur often in nature, they are in stocked waters. Where'd you catch those?

If I was a younger man, black poon. I’ve been catching a bunch in the lake I fish. I took a bag out the other day and boiled in crab boil and made fish cakes, not too bad. Like others have said, get the red out. They aren’t close to crappie or walleye, but they’ll eat.

They are fun to catch when running up the Chattahoochee from Westpoint lake each spring. First the whites, then the stripers.

They're fine. In my opinion not crappie fine but perfectly fine for tacos and fish nuggets. A blast to catch too....my entire area is crawling with white, hybrid and striped bass..and white perch...if you ain't eating them and spotted bass you probably ain't eating much of what you catch....

I’d clean it really good before you eat either option

They are best to eat fresh…….filet, cut the red out, and cook.
After they’ve been frozen they aren’t nearly as good.
