It's not even done for religious reasons in USA... it's done because "that's the way it is".
More and more parents are questioning this and keeping their sons intact these days, thank goodness.

It should reinforce the idea that women should never be the conservative candidate for any elected office, as their biological and emotional dispositions are at odds with limiting government authority over the individual.
