Can you really have a Maduro government with no Maduro?
It would certainly make more sense to call it the PSUV Government (rather than "Chavez" or "Maduro"), but most Americans have no clue what the PSUV might be.

Trump said at his presser that he didn't think the Machado lady could do the job
Just another instance of Trump saying bizarre things and expecting his Trumpists to swallow them whole.

What he actually said is that María Corina Machado "doesn't have the support or respect within the country" and that it would be "very tough" for her lead Venezuela for this reason.

In the last poll, Machado had a 72% approval rating among Venezuelans.

It is ENTIRELY possible that Trump is trying to pull the proverbial wool over our eyes, in order to bolster support for using VP Delcy Rodriguez as his chosen puppet.

There was a crisis before this shite went down.
I don’t know how you stop a civil war from happening to be honest.
Cartels are probably infested down there.

There's been a crisis in Venezuela since they elected Hugo Chavez.

That is a good point. Before the Caracazo crisis, Venezuela had a relatively stable economy and stable democratic institutions.

So unlike the regime operations in the Middle East, Venezuela has a history of multi-party elections. The main question now is how long the US will occupy the country?

Just as importantly, is whether China or Russia will seek to turn this occupation into a proxy war to protect one of their main trading partners? This regime change operation is without doubt a U.S. strategy to limit China’s global influence and isolate one of Russia’s primary trading partners in the Western Hemisphere.

I assume Russia is worn down from the Ukrainian War. And though I doubt China would intervene militarily, China could support anti-United States factions — both in Venezuela in the surrounding socialist Latin American nations — through covert channels.

I expect the sanctions on Venezuelan oil to come off.

Sanctions were such a stupid thing. We couldn't remove them and save face because we had expressed public condemnation of the Maduro regime and wanted to squeeze them. But we were essentially subsidizing cheap oil for China. Sanctions led Venezuela to sell cheap oil, having to eat huge discounts, and ship it by dark fleet to China. China was benefiting enormously. So we were actually helping our greatest rival.

Our foreign policy has been so retarded.

When Drumphhtt goes in on Starmer, he'll only need half a dozen straight white Christian males armed with derogatory language to scatter UK defenses.

Yes. The rest of the regime is still intact. In another thread on the first page is mentioned the bigger threat, the two main leaders of the cartels.

So sanctions enriched the Chicom Politburo while punishing average Venezuelans?

In a similar way, Russia — the world’s most heavily sanctioned nation — has forged stronger relations with China while empowering it’s MIC.

Though the stringent sanctions initially crippled Russia’s economic growth, Russia has since transformed itself into military-focused economy while fortifying trade networks with nations willing to defy Western sanctions:

How Sanctions Have Reshaped Russia’s Future…

…Despite the immense pressure of international sanctions, Russia’s economy has shown remarkable resilience, largely due to its vast natural resources and support from key allies like China. The country’s ability to produce essential commodities, such as food and energy, has allowed it to withstand prolonged economic pressure, much like other heavily sanctioned states.

…Even if hostilities were to cease immediately, Russia’s economic transformation is unlikely to be reversed. The Kremlin has redirected vast industrial capacities toward defense production, fundamentally reshaping the economic landscape. This shift has created a new class of economic beneficiaries—industries and individuals profiting from the war—who now have a vested interest in sustaining Putin’s war economy. The substantial investment in military infrastructure and the prioritization of defense industries indicate that Russia is preparing for prolonged geopolitical tensions, with an economy increasingly centered on military capabilities.
