Well if they get gestational diabetes and keep slamming down cokes and bonbons, it is a bit of an issue.

According to the CDC, "about 700 women die each year in the United States as a result of pregnancy or delivery complications."

700 women. total. Out of all pregnancies. I find it hard to believe we're going to get a much better success rate than that.

Apparently, a third of those deaths are due to "heart disease and stroke," and I find it hard to believe those are actually "pregnancy-related." Those folks didn't take care of themselves, and probably should have taken steps not to get pregnant in the first place. I doubt anything this "omnibus package" would do would address this problem.

Honestly, I think things like this omnibus package only exacerbates the problem. Black women look up to D politicians. D politicians are telling them doctor care is biased against them. Why would they listen to what a doctor tells them?

Can someone clip the part where they start holding black fathers accountable for raising their kids instead of making it everyone else's problem?

I hear ya. But black women know what they are doing. They know the guy isn't gonna be around. They get pregnant anyway because of self esteem within their peer group. 'I'm ugly, stupid and useless. BUT, I can make a baby! And that baby will love me.'

Note that it’s “Black,” and not “Poor People Maternal Health.” Forget the Indians. Forget the Latinos. Forget the Appalachians. They’re not even trying to hide it.

What's the death rate from abortion complications per racial ethnicity?

This seems like a sensible, prudent question to ask.

They lump suicides into "gun violence" so let's dig deeper into this, too.

Bill sounds fairly racist and unconstitutional. Something about equal protection. Keep race-baiting local, you hack.

If it doesn’t include a plan to give out payments for keeping the babydaddy around then they need to go ahead and throw that shite in the trash

mproving access to health care.

As a physician I find the statement above both facetious and insulting. If you are pregnant in this country you can get Medicaid and there are plenty of easily accessible OB's to help you as it is the only real part of Medicaid that pays worth a darn. The answer like many have stated is related to stop eating like shite and stop doing drugs but we in this country can't seem to be able to place any personal responsibility on anyone anymore

Are you kidding me? So I guess every clinician that works with AA don’t know how to listen and adhere to AA’s? You can scream at them until the cows come home but if they don’t do what is required for your own health then what difference does it matter if it is from a white person or black person?
