Alienating the entirety of our alliance would be incredibly foolish. Whether you people believe it or not, they do bring things to the table military. You don’t think having nations like Poland and their military would be a benefit against Russian aggression?
What about intelligence sharing? As strong as the US it does benefit in areas like this. Why would any of these people ever trust again?
If they’re smart, the second it would happen, they’d begin decoupling from the US economically. Which I know y’all don’t think Europe has anything of value for the us, but that’s just asinine.
Why would anyone enter into a defense agreement with us after we so casually tossed this one away?
Nuclear proliferation. If they can’t rely on the nuclear shield of the US, then they will all start building them. You really think that makes the world safer?
And finally, none of you seem to care about the concept of soft-power. Part of being in organizations like NATO has been the ability to enforce US will throughout the world non-militarily. We’re often taking the lead on things because of the appreciation and respect other nations have for the US.
All of this could be the result of this incredibly fricking stupid idea. The minerals there, which will cost a fortune to mine, cannot outweigh the consequences.
