What the frick is the point of redaction in an affidavit, beyond maybe "trauma" of victims families reading what happened to their loved ones?

The motive is important. The more details the better.
MAYBE, as a compromise, they can tell us how many gunshot wounds each victim sustained and if any of those wounds were point-blank. That doesn't establish motive by itself, but I think the public has the right to know whether the "10 gsw to the head" rumor is true for Ella Cook (RIP).
Also, maybe some of the students acted heroically. For instance, maybe the Muslim student who was killed was trying to stop the shooter.

As with so many other cases with a dead, alleged perp, it looks as if we will never know the motive of the shooter.
As of today, there was no reporting (that I could find) of even any work history of Valente...AT ALL. I haven't seen any interviews with people who attended the physics program that Valente and the MIT professor had attended in the 90s. No discussion of any contacts between the perp and the MIT professor.
This report from a local Boston station is typical. At least they brought up the subject. Looks like this will be like the Vegas shooting: "People do crazy stuff. Case closed."

Any enterprising just-out-of-Journalism-School reporter could make a name for themselves (not to mention about 100,000 other seasoned reporters) by simply digging around a little and answering one simple question:
How did the shooter get the money to eat over the past 20 years?
This alone would be a start on the road of understanding who he is, and how he ended up where he did. How hard can it be to answer that? Is there a shittier profession today than modern journalism?

That's what is so strange. No tax, property, or other civil information. Not even a traffic ticket (I searched Florida records online).

Stunning that theres been NO new info about Thomas Crooks.
They got that locked down tighter than dicks-hatband.
Last info we saw was a few days after the shooting somebody dracked down the dudes fatass dad buying cases of mountain dew and sunkist at Costco.
After that nothing. Not a peep of new info.

.. me , as an individual plus some others , which I cannot get into ...
I was schedule to be there to help with the start of the school year -- there the entire month of August and return to New Orleans Sept 8th
these people knew my schedule , but low and - behold I changed the schedule because of hurricane Francine ...
