I'll post a more historical view here, with running totals and some added data, and hope this trend continues:
AUG 11, 2025 - Trump Declares Emergency in DC - 2 murders that day.
AUG 12, 2025 - ZERO murders
AUG 13, 2025 - 1 Murder
AUG 26, 2025 - 1 Murder ( a 12 day period of no murders, 14th~25th inclusive)
As of SEPT 1 - 6th day w/o a murder (includes today, but... "Day's not over yet").
So for AUG 12th to SEPT 1, that's 2 murders in 21 days, a rate of 34.8 per year.
The murder rate for DC 2023 was 274/year.
The murder rate for DC 2024 was 187/year.
For 2025, through AUG 11, there were 99 murders. If that rate continued through the year, that would have been 162/year.
So if these sorts of spans of zero murders continue, DC could see an over 4.6 times reduction of murders, a 78.5% reduction.
Let's hope it holds, or gets even better!
