Sincerely SFP, does anyone think the current status of education in this country has improved? I don’t know of a single friend that believes education is moving forward by any measurable metric. It is a disaster, and I certainly do not blame teachers. It is completely broken, and needs to be revamped with more emphasis on trade schools included in the mix. Cost is outrageous for normal American families. I paid for my children throughout their entire journey from 1st grade through their college degrees, no aid. I have earned the right to comment on its current state. It is pathetic, and it is harming our country.

Dont argue fact with him. He’s not even discussing the topic. He just picks random legal points to argue and derail threads.

SFP is not posting anything other than legal innuendo and law as he sees it. Getting him to admit that a program or institution is broken is like saying “hey SFP what is your position on war and tariffs”. He will give you his legal or opinion as a lawyer. I have found it rare that he will give an opinion that he has that is void of legalities and just opinions that he has personally. He calls himself a “libertarian” but what he posts here lean left (unfortunately many if not most lawyers do). His main reason here is to be a contrarian for the most part. I guess he does it to practice his trade. I guess his online debate club went belly up about 20 years ago.

What is going to happen to the programs that DOE administers via Congressional statute (like PSLF)?

Well slow fanni pro is pretty selective in his thread appearances.
He tries so hard to pretend he isn't a progressive tool

He enters the ones that he feels he can win as far as the law is written (common sense and morals be damed). If you ask him to give a personal opinion he avoids like it is dick aids.

Well his opinion of himself is that of anything than progressive but his posts say otherwise. When questioned about it he reverts back to legal jargon rather than personal beliefs.

The DOE was an act passed by congress and Carter signed it.
Was not aware of that. If congress has even a small pair of balls they will nuke it. I like statistics and they obviously show that the DOE has negatively impacted education. I am also in favor of less federal government. It seems to be a no brainer. If only our politicians were not on the take it would be eliminated quickly.

The Dept of Education will still exist tomorrow. There just won’t be as many workers currently working there.

I wasn't discussing the propriety of, or my opinions over, the Congressional acts. Until Congress repeals them, they exist, regardless of how good/bad they are.
100% true. However, many of these laws are so vague that it leaves the Secretary of Education, Deputy Sec and others to interpret the intent of the law. This has a cumulative effect over 40 years. The President has the right to re-interpret these vague laws and he/she fit.

To be more specific, he's giving his legal thoughts after running them through ChatGPT to make sure he knows what to say and how to say it.

That short answer does not provide some needed background.
In 1976 Carter made a promise to the largest union of educators at that time, the NEA, that he would get the Department of Education carved out as an independent organization if they would support him in the presidential election. The NEA endorsed Carter and he came through on his political promise in 1979 by rallying the Democrats to push through the creation of the Department of Education.
It was created on the promise of a Democrat president at the behest of a teacher’s union, and as such the results from this department have been predictable….

Pretty much. He is realizing quickly that he will be replaced by AI.

So the Executive branch can essentially neuter the department and send the functions of the department back to the states.
