It's about much more than that. It's about the long-term security and prosperity of the American hemisphere. Not everyone thinks sitting on your arse while China increases its influence in your backyard is a good thing.
It's also smart to deal with problems before they become too big. This seems to be a shortcoming of conservatives. Some want us to also ignore islam because muslims are less of the population than other groups. It's short-sighted.
