Is France just pissed because they lost out on a few billion francs? Is the submarine building industry vital over there? Must be much more than that.

The French get a bad wrap due to that one time, but yep this is bad.

It really isn’t. They’ll throw their tantrum, and get over it.

They have domestic political pressures same as anyone else to protest their deal being canceled, and they have every right to be pissed about the underhanded nature of the AUKUS deal.

But this absolutely will not cause foundational changes to NATO or France’s commitment to our security agreements. Sometimes friends fight.

Yes the money and jobs is a large part of it. Military shipbuilding is a large industry for France, and their deal with Australia was a political win domestically.

But it’s equally about the secretive nature of how it happened, and that it happened just before France was about to ramp up their production. They’re pissed the Aussies, UK, and US cooked this up in secret and sprung it on them. They understandably feel disrespected.

So Joe has managed to alienate the Brits and the French. Never underestimate Joe’s ability to frick things up.

France can blow us. Biden is a fricktard but we need a tighter alliance with australia and the UK a lot more than the frogs.

Australia is the most ducked place in the world at this point. It’s a damn shame to as those guys used to actually have a set. Now, COVID has turned them into a bunch of Woke pantywaists.

Sadly, the French are more manly at this point.

Hell, with Biden in charge, we aren’t far behind Australia if the commies have their way.

Just imagine basing your foreign policy and geopolitical outlook on the COVID policies set by the government of New South Wales

Agreed. For Biden, Trump, or any past or future POTUS - it is a smart move. Obtaining the American nuclear-powered submarine over France's conventional diesel submarine, in the 21st century, for strategic engagement & defense is a bad thing? Who are we to dictate to AUS or anyone what they buy or don't buy, and how they plan/prepare their own national defense. We wouldn't let anyone tell the U.S. what to buy or not buy.

Frogs, as a major weapons system exporter, are more concerned about their bottom-line than the appropriate self-defense of the region.

We are already about as tight as tight can get. The United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, and New Zealand are called the "FVEYs" for a reason.

When has that ever happened? Or are you referring to their 100% correct decision not to get sucked into our meritless war in Iraq.

Tell that to the families of the dead Americans who Saddam Hussein was rewarding for killing Americans. Or the families of Americans who died in Iraq because Saddam Hussein wasn’t man enough to abide by the cease fire terms he agreed to.

And no, that isn’t the only instance of France going bitch on us. They were absolutely insufferable during and in the aftermath of WW2, after putting up a pillow fight in their own defense.

Apparently the French are doing this on mass right now nationwide, and I say “frick yeah! I want to join them!” I did register for the French Foreign Legion at one point, so maybe I’ll actively join instead of just getting emails from them.

Losing a contract is NOT a reason to recall an ambassador.

Don’t forget us trying to sneak out of Afghanistan in the middle of the night without informing our allies so they can get their civilians and military personnel out safely. Then we droned civilians. Good for us on the contract but we aren’t exactly the best of alliances right now.

NSW just got on board with the lunacy down under relatively speaking. Andrews in Victoria would make Stalin proud. Australia is as fricked up as one of Hunter’s whores.

What does any of that have to do with France? Or the fact that the war was a mistake?

How did they stab us in the back or whatever you mentioned earlier?

Also, the French killed more Germans in the Battle of France than any other Western ally combined until the Normandy landings. The surrender monkey trope is stupid and ignorant.

Since my flippant comment didn’t get the point across, I’m saying you are a fool if you are basing your idea of Australia’s military capabilities on their domestic COVID policies.

Cmon man!

How are you going to use that phrase in a thread about France and not get it right? “En masse”

Knowing nothing at all about this story other than the headline, I'm going to sit here and bask in the level of hypocrisy I'm sure we are about to be treated to in the media.

I can BARELY EVEN IMAGINE the manufactured outrage if Trump had pushed France to do this for any reason.

France didn’t pull its ambassador to London despite the UK’s role in the sub deal, but they're not off the hook: “[Britain] is hiding in the American bosom,” said France’s minister for European affairs. “This is a return to the American fold and a form of accepted vassalization.”
