Wife has been a teacher for almost 20 years now. People here would be physically ill to know how few parents actually invest of themselves in their kids' educations. From what she tells me, maybe 3 out of 10 parents regularly monitor what is going on with their kids in school, and half of those are doing so because their grades have or will affect their ability to play sports.

Good news is teachers are more than happy to step in to indoctrinate them and extort taxpayers. Let's not pretend there's a good guy in this dtory. There's a reason I homeschool. Public education is broken.

Probably one so bad it has been taken over by the state rather than the school district.
In Baton Rouge, the district has been playing musical chairs for years to prevent any takeovers. They will move where magnet programs are to skew results to show improvement and, worst comes to worst, shutter the school lest it be taken over.
IIRC, Lee, Capitol, Istrouma, and several others were either shut down at one point or had the student body changed.
Lee was shut down and reopened as a magnet. Capitol was shut down as a public and reopened as a charter. Less sure about Istrouma but it went from a 4A/5A enrollment to a 2A enrollment because it was so bad the students were allowed to transfer to a higher rated school.

Our district represents 3 towns, 2 towns having a population of about 2000 people, the other about 600 people, in a county that votes republican in the 70%-80% range. Woke dies here.

All these schools are is state funded day care. The sorry parents only send them there for a free lunch. Not one person from administration to teachers, to students to parents give a damn about education. There isn’t a dollar figure you can throw at any of them to actually make them give a damn either.

Would much rather remind them of at least one of the theorists who was instrumental in laying the foundations for what is now transpiring in the public schools.
One John Dewey who conceptualized and wrote the approach this nation would take in public education.

Were he still with us, doubt that he would fret over these numbers.

Check some of the classroom textbooks of essays for college Freshman exposition classes in which J. Dewey and those he fraternized with are contributors to, such as Walter Lippmann, Erich Fromm, Thorstein Veblen, Bertrand Russell.
The socialist tug is strong in academia.

But they can correctly identify each Pride Flag that makes up the Queer Rainbow.
They also know when Earth Day is.
They know Climate Chnage is real and man made.
They know all the different genders.
Sadly, none of that will help them land a job.
This is why Democratic run Education is a F-A-I-L
But again, just like the economy, not by accident.

And am I the only one to wonder how much death and destruction in the drug dealing society happens because one or both can't "do" math and add fractions and figure out cost per oz.?
