German Chancellor Scholz called on the parliament to impose a state of emergency due to "the events of the last 24 hours and the statements made by the U.S. government" regarding Ukraine.

Okay, can anyone explain how anything that has happened in the last 24 hours constitutes an "emergency" for Germany?

That's rich considering Germany has long passed declaration of an emergency on allowing rampant immigration. Too busy sorting 'recyclables' I suppose.

American isolationism

Oh FFS, really?

Is this the American isolationism that led Russia to take Crimea under Obama or the Donbas under Biden?

United States made promises to both Russia and Ukraine. No expansion of NATO (to Russia) and that we would protect Ukraine if they gave up their nukes. Guess what, both pledges were broken! And well before Trump became president.

Also, I seem to recall Trump, telling Germany not to rely entirely on Russian natural gas for their power supply, least they be held captive. Well, Germany didn’t listen.

Hmmm.

It’s almost as if Europe and NATO with help from the Americans painted themselves into a corner, which can only be resolved by going to war with Russia.

You're foolish if you don't think he (or his successor) wouldn't.

He probably won't have to though. The US thumbing their nose at Germany, especially after destroying the pipeline, is only going to drive them into the arms of Russia.

This Jekyll and Hyde foreign policy that America has conducted has been a disaster.

No, it's not. That's a prime example of poor foreign policy consistency. Soviet Union dissolves, the US has a choice to accept the new Russia or alienate it. They do option B, expand NATO over 25 years in clear violation of its agreement not to do so. They drew battle lines a long time ago, now they are waffling on the allies they chose in their presumed future struggle.

They blew the pipeline to solidify Germany in NATO and end their dependency on Russian oil and gas. Now we're signalling to NATO that they're kind of on their own.

So yes, it's a form of poor planning, worse execution and yes, isolationism.

Absolutely it is. They are going to have to decide real hard whether social programs are more important than defending itself.
