But that means a theory might not be fact at all, no?

Most theories are based on a set of principles. They don't have to be setup to be falsifiable. That is called a hypothesis

quote:Sure. Some theories have only tentative or conflicting support (global warming, birth-order effects, etc.), while others have a lot of consistent support (evolution, gravity, etc).
But that means a theory might not be fact at all, no?
The former theories are more likely to be found to be incorrect than the latter.

Can scientific theories be disproved even if they have currently wide acceptance?
Yes
As a matter of fact, it's one of the major distinctions between the scientific method and religion.

Sure, but I don't see many Christians stepping off buildings under the assumption they won't fall.

So how do Catholics justify that whole "papal infallibility" when it comes to Galileo and the sun, not the earth, being the center of the universe?
The Pope is only believed to be infallible when he speaks "Ex Cathedra".
And the Sun isn't the center of the universe

Interestingly enough, popper would be dismayed at the explosion of scientism in our modern society.

This is not surprising at all considering he is an Atheist
Are atheists the only people smart enough to understand these things?

He's a joke
He wants to be loved by all instead of bringing people to God he wants them to flock him.

Something can be both Fact and Theory. It doesn't mean theory in the colloquial sense.
So, when does a theory become fact?

So, when does a theory become fact?

Probably came to that conclusion after seeing an abundance of Neanderthals alive today.

So when the Pope says a theory is "real", he's misstating since it can never be considered an irrefutable fact scientifically?
Posted on 12/19/16 at 6:58 pm to DragginFly
quote:Not necessarily. Gravity is real; but it's possible that somewhere in the universe gravity doesn't exist. So scientifically it must be reputable, even if we've observed it as "real" millions of times.
So when the Pope says a theory is "real", he's misstating since it can never be considered an irrefutable fact scientifically?

Would you say the theory of gravity and the theory of evolution are equal in their reputability?
If not, why not?
If not, why not?

Why wouldn't he believe that? If he believed the Bible that God is everywhere, all knowing and all powerful the Catholic Church would lose tons of money on religious relics of so called saints that you need to pray to. The Catholic Church basically ignores the New Testament the gospel (good news) that any man can speak to God directly through his Son.
Maybe that's why there's so many churches of our lady of sorrows. They've don't believe in the good news lol......
