Now comes the fun part of watching Mike Johnson try to pull together the votes to raise the debt ceiling by $4T

keep seeing community notes on Twitter that say there’s actually nothing in the bill that addresses No tax on tips/overtime.

I’ve seen the same thing along with them saying those were stand alone bills, but I have no idea if that’s true.

I have hope that this is Vance.

I think he's just toeing the line until 2028.

Me too.

I read his book and came away very impressed with his intellect and common sense.

Why do Democrats hate service industry workers, senior citizens and blue collar workers?

Why do Republicans hate blue collar and middle class working people who don't happen to work in the service industry?

You tip because someone provided a service, therefore it’s not a gift. Enough with the mental gymnastics already.

Yeah, no man has ever tipped a hot waitress or bartender simply because she’s hot. Has never happened in the history of tipping

Woo hoo!!!!!

Hey everybody! I'm a billionaire!!! At least I must be, because Maxine Waters said the tax breaks were going to billionaires.

Please don't tell my wife.

Why should I be taxed more for working more? The tax increase on overtime is retarded.

There is no tax increase. You pay the same amount of taxes if you made that money via OT or if you made that amount of money as salary/straight time.

2) being against unfair tax practices in either direction makes me a liberal? I always forget how shallow minded some of you are and your lack of analytical and critical thinking.

Do you currently take advantage of the tax structure that allows you to pay a lower percentage of taxes than someone in a higher tax bracket than you? Do you currently take advantage of any other tax breaks that other people aren’t entitled to?

If you answered yes to either of those questions, you aren’t against an unfair tax system.

So you can continue to pay a higher ETR on your living?

I’m going to pay a higher rate anyway given what my salary is.

Typical stupid twisting of reality. No one hates service workers or people that work overtime.

We should all be taxed for our work the same. No one should get special treatment. Income is income.

Now if you are talking about social security and retirement? That is different seeing as you have people that already paid taxes on that money, then that is understandable.

Preach! All income should be taxed the same no matter how it is earned.

People on a salary + bonus structure (like me) work extra for that bonus. They tax the hell out of it.

Salesmen work their arse off for extra sales, and it all gets taxed.

This is not tax relief for "ordinary citizens"; it only helps folks in special circumstances. It is unfair to tax some differently than others.

These people are not very smart.

Again, I'd bet a large sum that if these people's withholdings went unaffected by their OT, they'd be ready to march on washington when turbotax tells them they don't get a 5k refund check from the IRS.

We don’t hate them, we just don’t think they should get special tax treatment for the same amount of work. It’s really not that complicated to understand.

Do you get paid less than minimum wage? Service workers do.

Nothing wrong with anyone working OT getting an extra boost by not paying taxes on the OT part.

Couldn't disagree with that premise more.

Carve outs in income tax is not the solution.

Yeah, above all else, we need to keep the people's money out of the people's hands unless it's all even/steven.

Yes, I think the government arbitrarily picking who gets to keep more of their money is bad

Well, yeah - not sure many around here argue the other POV. But reality is that's precisely what government does and that ain't going to change anytime soon, so in the meantime I'm all for anybody getting to keep more of their money and the government confiscating less.
