Republicans have house and senate majority. How does the shutdown vote keep getting blocked?

The Uni-Party had voted to redefine "majority" and moved the goal-posts to accommodate the Dems' inevitable future of being out-voted by simple majority.

When was the last time we passed an actual budget?

So why won't the Republicans pass a budget when they have a majority?

ie, why is this a fight over just a continuing resolution, and not an actual budget?

Aren't the Republicans supposed to be the fiscally responsible ones?

Our system is not designed to work with this quasi super majority in the Senate to get anything done.

Nonsense. We’ve had the filibuster since the early 1800s, and during that time we went from a backwards nation to the world’s only superpower.

Because it’s not a super majority in the senate and it takes a super majority to block a filibuster.

Everyone SHOULD know how it works. Speaks to the absolutely shitty public education in this country. Education has eroded/degraded since I graduated High School in the early 80's. Ignorance is no excuse. At least you came to a good resource to learn.

The Republicans would still need 60 votes in the Senate to end a filibuster for a Budget.

So, they proposed the same exact CR that Democrats passed for Biden.

The idea was to keep the Gov open for now, and continue working on a Budget, which can't be passed without getting votes from 7-10 Democrats.

Do you understand the requirement for sixty votes in the Senate? It is not a matter of a simple majority (which is what they have right now). You have to have sixty to bring a matter to closure. They have fifty-three. They need seven Democrats to join them and they refuse to.

They’re going to do that anyway, the filibuster is gone when they take power. Maybe the Republicans do something to maintain the majority.

No, but they should go back to you have to keep talking to keep the fillibuster going.

This. Like what a jury has to do. It’s their civic duty.

Isn't that just a senate rule the deep state uses to prevent people from opposing them?

You really only need 51 votes. But they don't want that because they don't want to lose control, so they won't change the rules. Then they won't have an excuse for avoiding single issue bills so they can keep pushing CRs.

Please say you don’t vote. This is why there needs to be a poll test and poll tax.

That’s extreme. You can still discern political matters and choose candidates you think best serve your country, state, and city without knowing what exactly leads to and ends government shutdowns. I mean he had a general idea at least….

People shouldn’t be shamed for asking questions.

I took an online United States map quiz the other day and got a few of the tiny original colony states wrong : /
Of course i learned all the states in school. It’s just been a while since i was randomly quizzed, and I have never visited the NorthEast.

Anyway, I think it’s safe to say we learn and forget some of what we learned in many subjects.

Do we all recall the quadratic equation? Parabolas? You get the point…
