This 100%. That would change some shite very fast!

And get the government out of the student loan business.

We need to divide things into certificates and degrees.

Your upper echelon students will likely drift to the degrees (and get the scholarships, etc.) and then those using college only for an economic certification will pay the same per year but can finish in less time while not having to test in.

Not anymore with the cost of tuition and diminished actual teaching. Mike Rowe (The Dirty Jobs guy) has the answer.

economic certification

What would an economic certificate be?

I'm not familiar with that term.

Institutions should be held accountable for student outcomes: Are our graduates getting jobs, pursuing meaningful work, and contributing to their communities?

It would awesome, albeit maybe a touch unrealistic, if institutions had to have ROI data on their degrees.

It's my term/concept.

Basically the "trade school" part of a degree. Strip out the "education" stuff outside of the trade being studied.

So like, an engineering degree. You strip away all the non-essential requirements for what would be a degree. So math, physics, engineering, etc. only. No English, foreign language, humanities, etc.

It's a terminal certification, too.

So kids taking easier majors to boost their GPA for law school get the certificate right?

We can save the actual degrees from engineers and science majors.

Just make the school have some skin in the game for the repayment of a student loan.

So take away the super easy core classes and then insult them by calling it a certificate.

You are a clown

You’re arguing against a good idea just because it’s SFP. Or perhaps because you’re dumb.

I’ve reached the point where I’m highly concerned about my daughter marrying a guy with a mountain of student loan debt. I’d be somewhat relieved if she ends up with a guy doing a blue collar trade.

Nothing wrong with student loan debt if the return is worth it.

Yeah we can let people take easier classes to get a “degree”. Then we’ll call the paper of people who take harder classes a “certificate”.

And I’m the dumb one

Depends.

Is it STEM related?

Are you planning on going beyond a bachelor's?

Do you want to teach?

Are you getting the degree because the subject interests you, but you really don't need it for what you want to do career-wise?

If none of those, the value is suspect realtive to career advancement.

My high school was harder than your college.

I’m sure your finger-painting courses were challenging.

You’re flinging poo and thinking you’re being thoughtful.

Tough call. But I’m leaning towards his being dumb as the main driver here.
